After one of his main rivals, White Birch was ruled out for the rest of the season, Ladbrokes has cut Economics into 6/4 favouritism for the 2024 Irish Champion Stakes.
Economics burst onto the scene at York back in May, where William Haggas' star ran away with the Dante Stakes at York. Haggas ignored cries to run his star three-year-old in the Epsom Derby, instead opting to wait until the Prix Guillaume d'Ornano in mid-August.
On his first start for almost 100 days, Economics showed no signs of ring-rust at Deauville. The short-priced favourite sauntered to an effortless victory over Royal Ascot winner Jayarebe in that Group Two, afterwhich Haggas identifies the Irish Champion Stakes as Economics prime target.
Defending champion, Auguste Rodin will return to Leopardstown to defend his crown. White Birch, who beat Auguste Rodin in the Tattersalls Gold Cup in May, was an intended runner in the feature on day one of Irish Champions Weekend, but John Murphy had to pull his stable star from the contest after he met with a season-ending setback.
Auguste Rodin could be joined in the races by stablemates Opera Singer and Los Angeles, who've both been entered in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe by Aidan O'Brien.
Juddmonte International Stakes third, Ghostwriter looks set to travel to Leopardstown in two week's time. Joseph O'Brien's Al Riffa, and Japanese raider Shin Emperor could also take on Economics at Leopardstown.
