The 2024 Irish Oaks has added two new entries, Lava Stream and Hanalia. Lava Stream, who performed remarkably at Goodwood and Royal Ascot, sees her entry fee justified by her strong form. Hanalia, winning the Oaks Trial at Naas, convinced her connections to compete in this historic race. Both entrants are promising contenders, with Lava Stream currently at 8/1 odds and Hanalia at double those odds.

Saturday's Irish Oaks has been bolstered by two supplementary entries, with Lava Stream and Hanalia entering the mix.

Lava Stream was rated just 79 when she entered the Listed Fillies' Stakes at Goodwood in June. David O'Meara's four-year-old managed to win that contest, and followed up with an excellent effort at Royal Ascot, where she was beaten a neck by Port Fairy in the Ribblesdale Stakes.

Port Fairy is the favourite to win Saturday's Irish Oaks, and her position in the market has encouraged Lava Stream's owners, Elwick Stud to stump up the €50,000 supplementary fee and enter their filly in that historic Classic.

"We just thought with the Ribblesdale form being so strong and the winner of the Ribblesdale being favourite for the Irish Oaks, we may as well take our chance." Said Gary Moore, manager for the owners.

"The form is there, that’s the reason why we’re going. There’s only a couple of Oaks you want to win, this is one of them and you’re able to take on three-year-olds rather than waiting to take on older fillies in the Yorkshire Oaks next time.

"She goes on any ground – the ground won’t bother at all. Even if she gets placed it would be amazing – for the stud, for David, for everyone. We’re hoping that we’re going over there with a fighting chance."

Another who has been added to the field is Hanalia, who won the Oaks Trial at Naas on her most recent start.

On just her third career start, Johnny Murtagh's filly came through with a withering late run to claim victory in that Listed trial. Murtagh has since twisted the arm of owners, The Aga Khan and they too have supplemented this beautifully-bred daughter of Sea The Stars into Saturday's feature at the Curragh.

Lava Stream can be backed at 8/1 for the Irish Oaks, with Hanalia available at double those odds. The full betting for the 2024 Irish Oaks can be found here on our website...
