2025 Champion Stakes Odds - Ombudsman and Calandagan to clash at Ascot
The 2025 Champion Stakes at Ascot is set to be a highlight of British Champions Day, with Ombudsman leading the betting as favourite after skipping the Irish Champion Stakes. French star Calandagan poses a significant challenge, while last year's winner Anmaat looks to defend his title after a strong season. Delacroix and Minnie Hauk are less likely to run, targeting other events. The field also includes notable entries like Almaqam, Whirl, Zahrann, and returning Group One winners, promising an exciting and competitive race.

2025 Champion Stakes Entries
Having decided to skip a third showdown with Delacroix in the Irish Champion Stakes, Ombudsman will carry the tag of favouritism into Champions Day. John and Thady Gosden's two-time Group One winner looks set for a first clash with French star Calandagan, who claimed his first top-level triumph in the King George here at Ascot in July.
Owen Burrows' Anmaat claimed a shock victory in this race 12 months ago, and will return to Ascot on the back of a couple of near misses earlier in the season. Delacroix and Minnie Hauk sit prominently in the market, but both are unlikely runners, with connections preferring tilts at the Irish Champion Stakes and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
Ed Walker has entered Almaqam, who beat Ombudsman in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes before a runner-up finish at York. Nassau and Pretty Polly Stakes winner, Whirl could represent Aidan O'Brien. Johnny Murtagh has handed an entry to Zahrann, following his Group Three triumph at the Curragh.
Former King George winner Goliath, and impressive Great Voltigeur Stakes hero Pride Of Arras seem to be likely runners, along with Andrew Balding's top filly See The Fire. John Murphy's White Birch, Henri Matisse and Los Angeles for Aidan O'Brien, and Saeed bin Suroor's three-year-old Tornado Alert also feature in the entries.
