The 2026 Lockinge Stakes delivered another thrilling renewal at Newbury Racecourse, as some of the best milers in training clashed in the Group 1 feature.
Most bookmakers were still offering 10/3 the field with half an hour to go before the Lockinge Stakes. John and Thady Gosden's Damysus topped the betting for most of the build-up, but was leapfrogged in the market by former 2000 Guineas winner Notable Speech, who went off as the 2/1 favourite.
Zeus Olympios was the overnight favourite, but drifted in the market during the morning. Aidan O'Brien's The Lion In Winter was the big drifter on the day, as money arrived for More Thunder and French raider Sahlan.
Paradise Stakes winner Jonquil represented Juddmonte, with shock QEII hero Cicero's Gift also featuring in the field. Dancing Gemini - second in this race 12 months ago - and Ballydoyle pacemaker Mississippi River completed the line-up.

Mississippi River was expected to go forward from stall seven, and Sean Levey rousted his mount into an early lead. Ryan Moore moved over to track his stablemate aboard The Lion In Winter, as the rest of the runners converged towards the centre of the track.
Zeus Olympios moved onto the shoulder of the leaders from stall one. Damysus sat fairly prominently too, with Notable Speech keeping tabs on the leading group. Cicero's Gift raced alongside the well-backed favourite, with Sahlan, Jonquil and More Thunder racing off the pace.
Notable Speech began to race a little keenly, so William Buick allowed the market leader to move onto the tail of the leading group. Mississippi River's race was run at the three-furlong pole, and The Lion In Winter moved into the lead.
Zeus Olympios soon had the leader in his sights, with Damysus also making a strong forward move. Buick had to switch around Damysus to mount his challenge, but when he asked Notable Speech to go, Charlie Appleby's star took off.
In the space of five strides, Notable Speech had opened up a commanding lead. More Thunder and Dancing Gemini made their moves from the rear, but the bird had flown, and Buick punched the air as Notable Speech collected another Group One.
Zeus Olympios kept on gamely to finish third, between the two closers from the rear. Damysus' challenge flattened out when passed by Notable Speech. Cicero's Gift and Sahlan came home well. The Lion In Winter finished weakly, as Jonquil laboured home with only Mississippi River behind him.
