2026 Middle Park Stakes Result and Replay - Orthodox fends off Force Noir to land Group One honours
Orthodox claimed a dramatic victory in the 2026 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket, overtaking long-shot Force Noir in the final strides. The race saw early pace set by Force Noir, with several favorites, including Inner City Blues, failing to fire. Hell Of A Spin charged late into third. Once Sun Goddess and the other Cheveley Park fillies departed the Rowley Mile, the Middle Park Stakes runners entered the parade ring at Newmarket.
Charlie Appleby was looking for his third straight victory in this famous Group One. He was represented by Inner City Blues, an impressive winner of the July Stakes earlier in the season, and William Buick's returning mount was hammered into 6/5 favouritism in the build-up.
Norfolk Stakes winner Orthodox was looking to bounce back after an under-par performance in the Prix Morny. Mick O'Callaghan sent Push The Boat Out over to England for the first time following his victory over Great Barrier Reef in the Round Tower Stakes.
Aidan O'Brien had been training Great Barrier Reef for this Group One, but his Coventry Stakes winner suffered a setback in the build-up. Instead, Ryan Moore rode emphatic maiden winner Marco Polo, with Tom Marquand riding Ballydoyle's second string, Confucius.
Adrian Keatley had already watched Hell Of A Spin place in both the Molecomb and Gimcrack Stakes this season. Robson De Aguiar's Force Noir was the rank outsider of the party.

Force Noir was the first to show, with Marco Polo travelling keenly alongside the pace-setter in the early stages. Rossa Ryan managed to switch Orthodox off behind the leading duo, with Inner City Blues travelling nicely in the second-rank early on.
Like his stablemate, Confucius was doing a little too much through the opening two furlongs. Hell Of A Spin and Push The Boat Out were held up at the rear, as the leader set some swift fractions.
Despite the market support, William Buick was the first to get to work aboard Inner City Blues as the leaders headed into the dip. Rossa Ryan, on the other hand, was still unmoved in Orthodox's saddle, and angled the second-favourite towards the rail as Marco Polo faded away.
Force Noir, however, showed no signs of wilting, and Robson De Aguair's raider still held a narrow advantage heading into the final furlong. Rossa Ryan was now hard at work aboard Orthodox, who pulled upsides the leader and managed to edge ahead of the outsider in the strides before the line.
Great credit must go to Force Noir, who ran a tremendous race on his Group One debut. Hell Of A Spin made up plenty of late ground to finish third, with fellow closer Push The Boat Out staying on to place fourth.
Inner City Blues failed to fire at all, and the two Ballydoyle runners were disappointing. Sun Goddess was smashed in the market for the 1000 Guineas, but a mile would be too much of a stretch for Orthodox. He looks like a sprinter through and through.
