Renowned jockey Ryan Moore has been sidelined indefinitely after it was discovered he has a fractured femur, a revelation made just before major racing events like Irish Champions Weekend. Despite initially experiencing soreness believed to be minor, a scan revealed the gravity of the situation. This injury is a significant setback for Aidan O'Brien, as Moore was expected to participate in critical events such as the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Ryan Moore has been ruled out indefinitely with a fractured femur, leaving Aidan O'Brien without his main rider for Irish Champions Weekend, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and more.

When Ryan Moore was stood down from his rides at the Curragh this weekend, soreness was cited as the initial reason. However, Aidan O'Brien spoke to Racing TV after the opening race, and revealed his retained rider has suffered a serious injury.

"He's been struggling with his right leg since the Irish Derby." O'Brien began. "He's been getting a lot of stuff done to it, but they thought there was a lot of different things going on."

"He had a scan yesterday, and when they did a scan they found a fracture in his femur. Ryan's got no choice but to give it time (to heal) and that's the way it will be."

"I don't know how long he will be out. Whether it's one month, two months, three months or whatever, Ryan will know when it's time to come back. He'll probably get it scanned every week or two and we'll take it from there."

"The femur is the biggest bone in your body and he can't take any chances with that. They said he was very lucky that it didn't break. He's an amazing man really, to keep on riding with it. He's made of concrete and that just proves it. Give it time and he'll be back."

This injury comes as a major blow for O'Brien, with all the major autumn festivals looming large on the horizon. Moore looks set to miss out on key rides in the St Leger and Champions Day at Ascot. O'Brien could also be without the world's best jockey for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe meeting at Longchamp and the Breeders Cup at Del Mar.

When quizzed about the upcoming Irish Champions Weekend, O'Brien revealed that his number two jockey, Wayne Lordan will miss the meeting through suspension, and refused to name any riders who might replace his top pilots.

"Wayne (Lordan) is obviously off for Champions Weekend. We'll just have to work away and do our best. Everyone will row in and we'll play it day by day."
