The 2026 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge at Greyville offers a final chance for contenders to book a place in the prestigious Durban July. While favorites like See It Again and Eight On Eighteen top the odds, the spotlight falls on Gladatorian at attractive each-way odds of 11/1. Trainer Stuart Ferrie's six-year-old has an impressive track record at Greyville and past victories over several key rivals. Conditions suit him perfectly in this Group One race, making Gladatorian the smart value bet for punters.

2026 Gold Challenge Entrants
Several of the leading contenders for the Durban July will clash on Saturday. Justin Snaith will saddle the top two in the market, with See It Again sitting ahead of Eight On Eighteen in the market.
Defending Durban July winner, The Real Prince represents Dean Kannemeyer. Questioning has drawn stall one as he looks for a fourth win on the bounce. Legal Counsel returns to Group One company, having finished second behind See It Again in the Cape Town Met.
Horse Chestnut Stakes winner Tin Pan Alley runs for Sean Tarry, with Gladatorian flying the flag for Stuart Ferrie. Dave The King is a 16/1 shot, despite winning the last two renewals of this lucrative contest.
Group One regulars Main Defender and Fire Attack also feature in the field. Jet Force and Cosmic Speed round off the betting.
2026 Gold Challenge Tips
Many of the leading contenders here will have both eyes fixed on the Durban July. See It Again and Eight On Eighteen are the classiest runners in the field, but both are better over further than a mile. As is The Real Prince, who always seems a little underestimated. Questioning, meanwhile, could find a strongly run mile a little too stiff.
At a price, I'll chance my arm with GLADATORIAN (11/1). Stuart Ferrie's stable star lost his way over the winter, but picked up well to follow Questioning home in the Drill Hall Stakes, where he shaped as if he'd appreciate the step back up to a mile.
Gladatorian boasts plenty of back form to bolster his credentials here. Ferrie's six-year-old beat See It Again in last year's Drill Hall Stakes, and went on to defeat Durban July hero The Real Prince in the Champions Cup here at Greyville.
Greyville is Gladatorian's second home. He's won pattern races here over six, seven, eight and nine furlongs. The 11-furlong Durban July may stretch his stamina a little too much, but the conditions of Saturday's Group One will be ideal for Gladatorian, and he's certainly classy enough to mount a winning challenge.
Verdict
Gladatorian is our each-way selection in the 2026 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge.
