The 2024 Dubai World Cup Carnival rolls into its second week on Friday. The week two card may not feature any pattern races, but viewers still have nine competitive handicaps to sink their teeth into.

Here are our best betting tips on week two of the Dubai World Cup Carnival. 

Dubai World Cup Carnival 2024 Tips - Week 2


2:40pm Meydan - Como Residences Handicap Tips


Another chance is given to MOLAQAB (4/1), who bolted up over seven furlongs at Lingfield on his final start for William Haggas in July. In what was billed as a battle between the two Michael Costa recruits, Molaqab was sent off as the clear favourite at Jebel Ali two weeks ago, but could only finish sixth as stablemate Mojeyrr claimed victory over six furlongs.

Ben Coen's mount never got into that race from a low draw in stall one and Coen reported that the favourite hung badly in the closing stages. Switching back to turf will help Molaqab, as will this step back up in distance.

3:50pm Meydan - Al Wasl Stakes Tips


Despite a fairly poor season in Britain, Charlie Appleby proved again that Meydan is his stomping ground last week, striking with both of his Week 1 runners. William Buick rides Star Of Mystery, who showed plenty of promise during the first half of last season, before disappointing in both the Duchess Of Cambridge and the Lowther Stakes. 

Mickael Barzalona will partner Appleby's second-string GREAT TRUTH (4/1), who was thrown into the Superlative Stakes on the back of a powerful debut triumph at Leicester last June. Great Truth bumped into a superstar in City Of Troy at Newmarket, but a slow start and a tendency to hang left certainly didn't aid his cause. I remain convinced that this son of Dubawi has bundles of ability, though, and William Buick might have made the wrong decision.

5:00pm Meydan - Lord North Handicap Tips


Charlie Appleby looks set to dominate this race too, given his three entrants occupy the top three spots in the betting. This time, I think William Buick has made the right call in opting to ride HIGHBANK (2/1), who ran away with a competitive handicap at Newmarket when last seen in July.

Buick held his mount up that day, slicing through the field at the two-furlong marker before surging three lengths clear on the run to the line. Unlike his stablemates, Highbank has experience running here at Meydan, having placed three times during last year's DWCC, and he could be at his most effective over this nine furlong trip.

6:10pm Meydan - The Palm Crown Handicap Tips


Friday's card ends with a wide-open 12-furlong handicap, where I fancy an each-way punt on GREAT DEED (10/1). Ahmed Al Shemaili's gelding impressed in his two outings here at Meydan last February, winning a competitive maiden over a mile before placing a close third behind First Winter in the 10-furlong Dubai Creek Harbour.

Great Deed was well-beaten on his comeback run at Jebel Ali last month, but he wasn't given a hard time that day. Richard Mullen's mount is impeccably bred, by Galileo and out of a Grade Two winner in Usherette. I'd be extremely surprised if Great Deed wasn't much better than his current handicap mark suggests.
