Pride Of Arras thrust himself into the Epsom Derby contention with a runaway victory in the Dante Stakes at York.
Ralph Beckett, a two-time winner of the Epsom Oaks, is yet to saddle the Derby winner. Pride Of Arras was handed an entry in that famous Classic during the off-season, having run out an impressive winner on his sole juvenile start at Sandown in August.
Rossa Ryan's mount drifted out to 18/1 before the off in the Dante, but proceeded to produce a sublime performance. Ryan had to wait for the gaps to open, and once they did, Pride Of Arras muscled his way to the front and forged a length clear of the chasing pack on the run to the line.
Pride Of Arras will wear the light blue and white silks of owner Mr David Aykroyd. Ralph Beckett's colt is currently number 11 on the list of Derby entrants, but that will change once the field has been confirmed.
