Ruling Court will attempt to become the fourth horse in the last ten years to go straight from the 2000 Guineas to scooping Epsom Derby glory.
Unlike the three former winners, which include former stablemate Masar, Ruling Court will head to Epsom on the back of a Classic victory at Newmarket. William Buick's mount was well-backed in the build-up to the 2000 Guineas and battled bravely to repel Field Of Gold and Shadow Of Light to claim a narrow win.
Charlie Appleby said straight after that Guineas victory that Ruling Court would be trained for the Epsom Derby. Appleby's colt is by the same sire as last year's Derby winner City Of Troy and boasts winning form around the turning left-handed track at Meydan.
Ruling Court will wear the royal blue silks of owners Godolphin and will be ridden by William Buick. Appleby's star is number 16 on the list of Derby entrants, but that will change once the field has been confirmed.
