A hugely impressive winner of the Acomb Stakes last season, a setback meant The Lion In Winter missed the second half of his juvenile campaign. Aidan O'Brien opted not to run his colt in the 2000 Guineas, instead choosing the Dante Stakes as the scene for his reappearance, where Ryan Moore's mount was beaten into sixth behind Pride Of Arras.
Moore wasn't hard on his mount when beaten at York, knowing that Epsom was the main goal. Auguste Rodin and City Of Troy were both well-beaten on their seasonal bow before going on to claim Derby glory, so Aidan O'Brien clearly knows how to ready one for the big day.
The Lion In Winter will wear the blue and orange silks of owners Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Mrs John Magnier. O'Brien's colt is currently number 21 on the list of Derby entrants, but that will change once the field has been confirmed.
