2025 Sussex Stakes Runners
Field Of Gold claimed his third victory of the season at Royal Ascot, when powering to victory in the St James's Palace Stakes. John and Thady Gosden's grey will take on the older milers for the first time at Goodwood, where William Buick will deputise for the suspended Colin Keane.
Docklands got the better of Rosallion to win the Queen Anne Stakes at Ascot and both will line up against the three-year-olds at Goodwood. Henri Matisse renews rivalries with Field Of Gold, having finished a distant second behind the market leader during the Royal meeting.
Carl Spackler will have one final run on British soil before linking up with new trainer, Ciaran Maher in Australia. Qirat has been supplemented into the contest, presumably to make the running for fellow Juddmonte flag-bearer, Field Of Gold. A second potential pacemaker, Aidan O'Brien's Serengheti also features in the field.
2025 Sussex Stakes Tips
Field Of Gold is going to be extremely hard to beat. William Buick's mount was far too good for Henri Matisse at Royal Ascot and I can't see that form being turned around. Rosallion, and the other older horses, will have to give the hot-favourite eight pounds at the weights, making what already seemed a difficult task close to impossible.
That being said, I've got no interest in backing any horse at 2/5. Instead, I'll have a speculative each-way wager on CARL SPACKLER (33/1), who was one of the top milers around turning tracks in America.
Ciaran Maher's recruit won three Group Ones on US soil, ending his time with Chad Brown with an emphatic victory in the Maker's Mark Mile at Keeneland. Carl Spackler was having his first start on a straight track in the Queen Anne Stakes and failed to settle behind a fairly slow pace, eventually finishing a little one-paced back in fifth as Docklands and Rosallion fought out the finish.
While all the tracks he raced on in the US were left-handed, moving back to a turning track should aid Carl Spackler's challenge. Maher's five-year-old has had an extra month to acclimatise in the UK and Shane Foley's mount is entitled to improve for that run at Royal Ascot.

Verdict
There's little point in backing Field Of Gold at his current price, so I'm going to take a wild punt on Carl Spackler at 33/1.
