Inisherin was sent off as the well-backed favourite for today's July Cup, as Kevin Ryan's star looked to build on victories in the Sandy Lanes Stakes and the Commonwealth Cup.

After a double for the Crisford's on day two at Newmarket, Vandeek was heavily backed for Saturday's feature. However, James Doyle's mount drifted on the day and was almost joined by Aidan O'Brien's River Tiber in the market.

Regional was withdrawn from the contest on Saturday morning, causing Kinross, Jasour and Mill Stream to shorten. Karl Burke's Swingalong was the pick for each-way backers since being confirmed in the field. Khaadem, Mitbaahy, Art Power and Vadream completed the field.

Art Power and Swingalong were the first to show, with River Tiber also prominent. Jasour was, again, very keen in the early stages, pulling his way into the second wave, along with Mill Stream and Inisherin.

Vandeek looked a little outpaced after a couple of furlongs. James Doyle's mount sat third from last at the halfway stage, with only Khaadem and Mitbaahy behind.

With two furlongs to travel, Jim Crowley pushed Jasour into contention. He was followed into the race by Inisherin, but neither was going as well as Mill Stream, who overtook Art Power and took aim at Swingalong.

Karl Burke's filly put in another valiant attempt, but Swingalong was forced to wait for her day in the spotlight, as Mill Stream reeled the leader in and claimed a narrow victory.

Vandeek picked up late on, staying on well to finish third. Inisherin narrowly claimed fourth place, ahead of Art Power and Jasour. River Tiber faded rapidly after a good start. Kinross, Vadream and the two Jim Hay runners failed to get involved.
