The final day of racing at the July Meeting is headlined by one of the most important sprint races staged in Britain, the July Cup. This Group One was first staged back in 1876 and has been won by sprinting royalty like Ormonde, Sundridge, Abernant, Right Boy and Moorestyle.

We've taken a look through the latest July Cup betting and picked out our best two betting tips.

Leading the way in the betting is Richard Fahey's Perfect Power. Christophe Soumillon guided Fahey's three-year-old to his third Group One triumph in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot and Perfect Power is the 9/4 favourite with William Hill.

Naval Crown edged out stablemate Creative Force to claim an unexpected victory in the Platinum Jubilee Stakes last time out at Royal Ascot. Anthony & Sam Freedman's Aussie raider, Artorius stayed on from off the pace to finish third against his elders that day, and he's remained in Britain to have a crack at the July Cup.

Flaming Rib and Cadamosto, second and fourth in the Commonwealth Cup, will be in receipt of six pounds as they take on the older sprinters. Twilight Jet will also represent the three-year-olds. King Hermes will fly the flag for Japan, after he was entered up by Yoshito Yahagi.

Romantic Proposal and Alcohol Free take on their younger rivals on day three of the July Festival. Other runners include Emaraaty Ana, Happy Romance, Blackrod and Double Or Bubble.

I don't like backing hold-up horses in the July Cup. Given the size and quality of the field - and the uphill run to the line on the July Course - it can be very hard to make up late ground, especially if the early pace is hot.

CREATIVE FORCE found that out in this race 12 months ago, where he was held up out the back on the stand's side and his late charge was only good enough for fifth. It was a similar story last time out at Royal Ascot, where Creative Force sat stone last at the half-way stage having been drawn poorly in stall one. William Buick's mount overtook 22 rivals in the final two furlongs, but couldn't quite catch Naval Crown, who made all from a more favourable draw.

Charlie Appleby's charge showed what he could do when ridden prominently in the Champions Sprint, where he ran out an impressive winner. I firmly believe that Creative Force is the best sprinter in this field and if he can get off to a level break from a kind draw in stall nine, he'll take plenty of beating.

2022 July Cup Tip 2 - Alcohol Free

After landing a nice high draw along the rail in stall 14, with a likely front-runner in Naval Crown drawn directly on her inside, I'm also going to have an each-way bet on ALCOHOL FREE at 25/1.

Andrew Balding dropped his two-time Group One winner back down to six furlongs at Royal Ascot, following a couple of underwhelming runs over a mile. Rob Hornby's mount began to feel the pinch over this sharper trip fairly early and Alcohol Free was one of the first to come under pressure.

At the furlong pole, Hornby had the door shut in his face as he attempted to dart left inside traffic. Despite that setback, Alcohol Free still managed to finish her race off well, crossing the line less than three lengths behind the winner.

Balding was encouraged enough by that run to give his stable star a crack at another huge sprint. If she's improved mentally for that wake-up call in the Platinum Jubilee, then I see no reason why Alcohol Free can't outrun her odds.
