2025 Dewhurst Stakes Runners
William Buick and Charlie Appleby combined to win this race with Shadow Of Light 12 months ago. Distant Storm will attempt to hand Godolphin their fifth victory in this Group One, and Buick's mount tops the betting following an excellent victory in the Tattersalls Stakes.
Appleby and Aidan O'Brien have won six of the last seven renewals of the Dewhurst between them. Ballydoyle's main runner will be Coventry Stakes hero Gstaad, who has since finished second in a couple of Group Ones. O'Brien has also entered National Stakes third Italy.
Zavateri beat both Gstaad and Italy when landing the National Stakes and Charlie Bishop will ride Eve Johnson Houghton's unbeaten star in Saturday's main event. Oisin Murphy jumps into the saddle of Oxagon, who placed second behind future Group One winner Puerto Rico in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster.
Gewan could only finish fourth as the favourite in the Champagne Stakes, and will bid to bounce back on Saturday. Karl Burke is represented by unbeaten colt Alparslan. Charlie Appleby's outsiders, Saba Desert and Pacific Avenue complete the field.
2025 Dewhurst Stakes Tips
I was blown away by Distant Storm's victory in the Tattersalls Stakes and, with two stablemates thrown into the contest by Charlie Appleby, the race should be run to suit. Zavateri has done nothing wrong in four starts this term, and Eve Johnson Houghton's colt could be up to winning his second Group One of the season.
Zavateri clung on to deny GSTAAD (10/3) when the two met in the National Stakes. A fast pace was set by Dorset, and the market leaders settled down for a set-to entering the final two furlongs. Zavateri got first run on the market leader, and although Gstaad tried to fight back late on, Johnson Houghton's raider held on to claim a famous victory.
Gstaad met with a setback before his narrow defeat in the Prix Morny. O'Brien was confident that run would be his Royal Ascot winner spot on for the National Stakes, so he must have been a little disappointed to see his colt come away without the win.
That being said, Aidan O'Brien's recent record in the Dewhurst is much better than his tally in the National Stakes. Six of the last 12 renewals of this Group One have been won by Ballydoyle, and I fancy Gstaad will have improved again for that outing at the Curragh.

Verdict
The leading trio here are very tightly matched, but I'm going to take 10/3 about Gstaad, as Aidan O'Brien's star bids to bounce back following two narrow Group One defeats.
