The 2024 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket features top fillies like Babouche and Lake Victoria, both unbeaten and competing for the first time. Babouche, having defeated colts in her previous races, is the favorite, while Daylight, an impressive Group Three winner, offers value at 7/1. The race’s setup favors Babouche, but Daylight's consistent form and favorable draw make her a compelling bet. With multiple front-runners in the mix, anticipate a high-paced, thrilling contest. This first half of a Group One double-header at Newmarket on Saturday is the Cheveley Park Stakes. Many legendary fillies have rounded off their juvenile campaigns with a victory in this historic contest, including future Classic winners like Pretty Polly, Fleet, Marling and Special Duty.

Let's take a look through the latest Cheveley Park Stakes betting and run through the headline entries.

Leading the way in the betting is unbeaten Irish raider, Babouche. Following her maiden win at Cork, Ger Lyon's filly has taken down Aidan O'Brien-trained colts in two pattern races, beating Camille Pissarro in the Anglesey Stakes before a convincing victory over Middle Park favourite Whistlejacket in the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes.

The other Group One winner in the field is Lake Victoria, who will drop down in trip after an impressive victory in the Moyglare Stakes two weeks ago. Patrice Cottier sends star filly Daylight over from France, having finished third behind Whistlejacket and Rashabar in the Prix Morny.

Ed Walker's Lowther Stakes winner, Celandine is the highest-placed home entrant in the market. Queen Mary winner Leovanni will renew rivalries with Celandine, having finished a close third behind that rival in the Lowther.

Francois-Henri Graffard will be represented by Rayevka, who bolted up in a maiden at Chantilly on her most recent outing. Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes winner Arabian Dusk and Clive Cox's Magic Mild, third in the recent Dick Poole Fillies' Stakes, complete the line-up.

2024 Cheveley Park Stakes Tips

Someone's 0 has to go, as Babouche and Lake Victoria square off for the first time. On breeding, both should be able to produce their best form on soft ground and both look well-balanced enough to cope with the Rowley Mile.

Colin Keane will want a strong pace to aim at and that seems all-but guaranteed. Ryan Moore, who knows his mount stays seven furlongs, won't be far away from the early pace. Celandine made all when winning the Lowther Stakes. Rayevka made the running to great effect when scoring in a maiden last time out, and Magic Mild has done all of her best work from the front.

The race should set up perfectly for Babouche, who has been strong enough to beat the colts on her last two starts and warrants short-priced favouritism. Another who will be well suited by conditions is DAYLIGHT (7/1), and I'm going to back Patrice Cottier's raider to claim a famous win.

Daylight bolted up on her debut at Chantilly in May. Mickael Barzalona was then forced into making the running in the Prix du Bois, where Daylight faded late on as Arabie claimed victory. Under a more patient ride in the Prix de Cabourg, Cottier's filly registered a resounding Group Three victory, beating Polyvega by two-and-a-half lengths.

From her wide draw in the Prix Morny, Barzalona dragged his mount back to the rear early on and attempted to settle behind Whistlejacket, who made the running along the inside rail. Daylight found herself stuck behind a fading rival as Aidan O'Brien's colt switched into top gear and once Daylight had enough room to mount a challenge, the winner was home and hosed.

I'm sure Cottier was impressed with the way Daylight hit the line in that Group One, where she was only beaten a length-and-a-half behind two colts who will contest the upcoming Middle Park Stakes. Barzalona is drawn perfectly in stall three on Saturday, with likely front-runners Celandine and Magic Mile drawn on either side. She may not be unbeaten, but Daylight has plenty of ability.
