2024 Middle Park Stakes Tips - Whistlejacket worth taking on at Newmarket?
The 2024 Middle Park Stakes features Aidan O'Brien's Whistlejacket as the clear favorite. The unbeaten colt has shown exceptional form, winning the July Stakes and Prix Morny. Other notable entries include Ides Of March, Shadow Of Light, and Black Forza. While Whistlejacket is expected to dominate, Shadow Of Light and Ides Of March could pose challenges under favorable conditions. The race lacks depth, but Whistlejacket's proven prowess at Group One level makes him hard to beat, particularly if the odds drift towards 5/4.

Once the winner of the Cheveley Park Stakes has been crowned, a field of talented colts will take to the Rowley Mile ahead of the Middle Park Stakes. Like the Cheveley Park, several legends of the sport have landed this huge juvenile price, including the likes of Sun Chariot, Abernant, Brigadier Gerard and Dark Angel.

2024 Middle Park Stakes Entries
Aidan O'Brien has won the Middle Park Stakes a record seven times and accounts for two of the first three in the betting. The market leader is Whistlejacket, winner of the July Stakes at Newmarket and the Prix Morny on his most recent start. Ballydoyle will also be represented by Ides Of March, who bolted up in a Group Three at the Curragh at the end of August.
Gimcrack runner-up, Shadow Of Light has been entered by Charlie Appleby. Richmond Stakes winner, Black Forza returns to the UK after a poor effort out in America. Intrusively, third behind Black Forza at Glorious Goodwood, steps back up into Graded company after a fifth-place finish in the 2YO Stakes at Doncaster.
Wathnan Racing will be represented by unbeaten colt Defence Minister. Andrew Balding's Jouncy and Charlie Johnston's Dash Dizzie also feature in the field.

2024 Middle Park Stakes Tips
I don't think this is a particularly deep Group One. Black Forza has copped an awful draw in stall one and the form of his Richmond Stakes victory hasn't worked out particularly well. Defence Minister was withdrawn from the Mill Reef when the ground turned soft, so conditions on Saturday may not be to his liking.
Shadow Of Light's half-brother, Earthlight won this very race in 2019. Charlie Appleby's colt is bred to handle cut in the ground and ran well on his first pattern-race start in the Gimcrack Stakes. He's of interest, but whether he can trouble the two Ballydoyle runners at the head of the betting, I'm not so sure.
Ryan Moore has opted to ride WHISTLEJACKET (Evens) over Ides Of March. That didn't come as a surprise, as the favourite has already proven himself at Group One level by winning the Prix Morny, and his runaway triumph in the July Stakes came on softish ground.
Ides Of March is certainly a juvenile on the up. His last two victories have been very impressive and he'd be at the forefront of my thoughts for the Breeders' Cup. However, soft ground is surely far from ideal for Sean Levey's mount and the form of either of his pattern victories hasn't worked out particularly well.
In short, Whistlejacket should take plenty of beating in Saturday's Middle Park Stakes. I won't be backing the favourite at Evens, but if he was to drift towards the 5/4, 11/8 mark, I'd have to get involved.
