Saturday's main event takes place at Wetherby, as a field of classy chasers takes part in the Charlie Hall Chase. Legendary names like Wayward Lad, One Man, See More Business and Cue Card feature on the roll of honour for this Grade Two contest and three ten-year-olds top the betting for Saturday's renewal.

2025 Charlie Hall Chase Runners

The early favourite for Saturday's feature at Wetherby is Dan Skelton's multiple Grade One winner, Protektorat. Skelton's ten-year-old claimed his sole victory of last season at Windsor's Winter Millions Meeting, and will again be targeted at the most valuable races over two-and-a-half to three miles.

Paul Nicholls will step Pic D'Orhy up to three miles for the first time, as the two-time Ascot Chase winner looks to extend his excellent reappearance record. Another ten-year-old, Hewick will return to chasing, having marked his return to action with an easy win over hurdles at Thurles.

Charlie Deutsch and Venetia Williams combine with Denman Chase winner Djelo, who traded victories with Protektorat at Huntingdon and Windsor last term. The Real Whacker ran out an impressive winner of this race 12 months ago, and went close on his return to action over hurdles at Perth last month.

The inconsistent but talented Ga Law completes a small, select line-up.

2025 Charlie Hall Chase Tips

I'm quite keen to back HEWICK (4/1) in Saturday's main event. Shark Hanlon's former King George winner already has a run under his belt this season, and good ground is often crucial to his chances.

Following a pipe-opener at Punchestown last season, Hewick ran a blinder in the Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal, losing out by just half a length to course-specialist Envoi Allen. Hanlon then geared the rest of his campaign around a crack at the Grand National, where Hewick finished a slightly underwhelming eighth.

Hanlon's ten-year-old enjoyed a lovely pop around the hurdles course at Thurles two weeks ago, which should have put him spot on for today. Gavin Sheehan reprises his King George-winning partnership with Hewick, who looks to have an outstanding chance on favourably good ground.
