Last year's winner, Half Yours, tops the betting for the 2026 Melbourne Cup. Jamie Melham's mount won the Caulfield Cup before claiming Melbourne Cup glory last autumn, and has gone on to show some decent form this season, placing in several Grade One and Two contests over a variety of distances.

Joseph O'Brien's hopes of winning a third Melbourne Cup could rest on the shoulders of Defiantly, following his victories at Glorious Goodwood and in the Prix Kergorlay. Chris Waller could be represented by Tancred Stakes winner Aeliana, despite her last-place finish in the Winx Stakes at Randwick in August.

Epsom Derby third James J Braddock is another possible runner for Joseph O'Brien, who could also be represented by last year's runner-up Goodie Two Shoes and recent Curragh Cup winner Trustyourinstinct. George Boughey has handed an entry to Ebor Handicap runner-up Hopewell Rock, with Harry Charlton likely to be represented by Australian-owned Geoffrey Freer Stakes winner Wine Dark Sea.

Constitution Hill can currently be backed at 25/1 to win the 2026 Melbourne Cup with bet365. Aidan O'Brien has entered Epsom Derby winner Christmas Day. Sons And Lovers, Small Fry and Kizlyar could also represent the all-conquering Joseph O'Brien team.

Bjorn Baker's Australian Derby winner Green Spaces sits prominently in the betting. Birdman, Zahrann, Saint George, Tennessee Stud, Middle Earth and Royal Supremacy were all formerly trained in Europe, but could now represent Australian connections. Other potential runners include recent Aussie purchase Point Of Law, leading Japanese hope Stinger Glass and Litzdeel for Danny O'Brien.
