ITV Racing Tips - Saturday 23rd October
Race 1 - Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle Tips
Fergal O'Brien plays a strong hand in Saturday's opener, and the one of his I fancy is BYZANTINE EMPIRE. Formerly trained on the level by John Gosden, this son of Golden Horn won nicely on his third start over hurdles at Southwell in May, beating a future five-length winner of Dan Skelton's and an odds-on favourite trained by Alan King.
After a narrow defeat to Celestial Halo, Byzantine Empire won again at Southwell on his most recent outing back in July. O'Brien's four-year-old finished a little tired that day, but he's undergone wind surgery and been given 100 days to recover since. He can go well at a decent price.
Race 2 - Horris Hill Stakes Tips
There was nothing to split Noble Truth and Hoo Ya Mal when they met in the Flying Scotsman, with Charlie Appleby's charge winning on the head-bob. Both look to hold strong claims here, but I'd rather side with DUBAI POET, who finished third here at Newbury on debut, before bolting up by five lengths over course-and-distance.
Coroebus rightly drew the plaudits after the Autumn Stakes, having come from the rear on the wrong part of the track to claim an impressive win. Dubai Poet was draw one stall inside Coroebus and also had to come from off the pace, and really caught the eye when staying on for third. Andrea Atzeni's mount drops back down to seven furlongs today and his breeding suggests he should be able to deal with testing ground.
Race 3 - What's Your Thinking Handicap Chase Tips
A hugely competitive handicap, where chances can be given to many. I do, however, think GO ANOTHER ONE is a good value bet, after impressing with some strong performances during the summer.
John McConnell's nine-year-old beat the classy Peregrine Run by ten lengths in a staying hurdle at Cork in August, before edging out stablemate Roi De Dubai to land a decent pot at Perth last time out. McConnell is no stranger to success at this meeting and, although Go Another One has been well-beaten in the last two runnings of the Kim Muir at the Cheltenham Festival, he boasts plenty of experience around this tricky track.
Race 4 - St Simon Stakes Tips
Whether Siskany deserves this rating of 111, having never tested himself above handicap level, is debatable, but Charlie Appleby's charge is a worthy favourite nonetheless. Even with that three-year-old allowance on his side, I'd still rather back ILARAAB, who's bounced back to form since that dismal effort in the Ebor.
William Haggas' colt ran on well for third in a classy renewal of the Legacy Cup here at Newbury. Hukum then proved far too classy in the Cumberland Lodge, but Ilaraab made good late progress from well off the pace to place third once again. This looks weaker than what he's faced the last twice, and softer ground will certainly be to his advantage.
Race 5 - Masterson Holdings Hurdle Tips
Tritonic and Stepney Causeway impressed in juvenile hurdles last season and could still be open to progression. I'd rather side with I LIKE TO MOVE IT, who spent his first season under rules running in bumpers, finishing second in a Listed contest and ninth in the Champion Bumper.
Nigel Twiston-Davies' four-year-old was then well-backed as he made his hurdles debut at Worcester two weeks ago. The odds-on favourite overjumped a fair few of his obstacles that day, but had more than enough in the tank to claim a three-length win. With that winning experience under his belt, he could be the one to side with.

Race 7 - Handicap Chase Tips
Impressive Grand Annual winner, SKY PIRATE makes his triumphant return to Cheltenham, and I can't see anyone being good enough to thwart Jonjo O'Neill's Cheltenham Festival winner.
Having been beaten a number of times over staying trips, Sky Pirate progressed rapidly after being dropped back to the minimum distance. Nick Scholfield's mount carried 11-6 to victory in the Grand Annual, and should have no trouble dealing with top-weight on Saturday.
Race 8 - Doncaster Stakes Tips
Flaming Rib tops the market, but I'd rather side with DEODAR, who finished off well from off the pace to defeat several decent rivals on debut at Newbury.
The runner-up that day was Witch Hunter, who was handed a rating of 101 after finishing a head behind the classy Canonized at Listed level next time out. Deodar is by a top sire in Bated Breath and his half-brother, Probe has won twice on soft ground for Dermot Weld in Ireland this season. If he's kicked on between runs, then Deodar has the raw ability to upset the market leader.
Race 9 - Pertemps Qualifier Tips
Since moving from Jamie Osbourne's yard to Oliver Sherwood, JERSEY WONDER has shown plenty of promise over hurdles. Sherwood's five-year-old has won twice at Fontwell and Exeter this year, and was last seen going down by just a neck to Geordie Des Champs, who reopposes on Saturday. As long as the ground remains on the good side, I think Jersey Wonder could outrun his odds.
Race 10 - Sprint Handicap Tips
INDIAN SOUNDS proved he could handle soft ground when flying home to place second between Roulston Scar and Makanah in a red-hot conditions race at Musselburgh last time out. Paul Midgley's five-year-old could get a lovely toe into the race from El Astronaute, drawn just two stalls inside him, and looks well-handicapped with just 8-7 to shoulder.
