Cheltenham Festival Day 4 Tips
1:20pm Cheltenham - Triumph Hurdle Tips
Irish horses have dominated the Triumph in recent years. However, the form of the two Graded races that we've seen at Leopardstown doesn't seem particularly strong. The horses that East India Dock beat in Grade Twos this season were all beaten out of sight in the Fred Winter on day one, which makes me even more confident in saying that LULAMBA (9/4) is the best horse in this year's Triumph Hurdle.
Nicky Henderson's recruit won well in France and sent the Twitter-sphere into meltdown following his British debut at Ascot. What's impressed me most about both of Luluamba's wins is that he did his best work in the latter stages of those races. That trait bodes well as Henderson's star prepares to tackle the hill at Cheltenham.
Lulamba will need to be at peak fitness to repel this field and Henderson clearly wanted to get another run into his star before his first trip to the Festival. Yet, Nico De Boinville's mount seems to have a certain amount of X Factor and he can prove himself the most talented horse in this field.

2:00pm Cheltenham - County Hurdle Tips
Six non-runners on the day reduced last year's
County Hurdle field to 17. This year, only 16 have been declared at the 48-hour stage and the majority of the horses involved looks to be fairly exposed.
Paul Townend has chosen to ride Kargese over defending champion Absurde, as Willie Mullins looks to win this race for a sixth time in 11 years. Dan Skelton, himself a four-time County Hurdle winner, is represented solely by VALGRAND (7/1), who looked to have completely blown his mark when upped to 140 following his emphatic victory in the Sharp Novices' Hurdle here at Cheltenham in October.
Valgrand then finished a distant second to Caldwell Potter over a longer trip in the Hyde Novices' Hurdle. Skelton then ran his six-year-old in two handicaps in the space of two weeks in December, and it was no surprise to see Valgrand fall out the back of the TV in both races.
The handicapper has responded by dropping Valgrand's mark back down to 134, meaning he'll carry around 10-8 in this handicap. Skelton has freshened Valgrand up - a tactic which has worked well with his other County Hurdle winners - and the ground looks set to come up favourably good on day four of the Cheltenham Festival.
That being said, my best bet in this year's County Hurdle is LARK IN THE MORNIN (9/2), who ran out a hugely impressive winner of the Fred Winter 12 months ago.
Joseph O'Brien almost withdrew his challenger when the ground turned heavy. Lark In The Mornin was a big drifter on the morning too, but JJ Slevin's mount travelled beautifully on that testing ground and kicked two lengths clear of the field on the run to the line.
Lark In The Mornin then sustained an injury when fifth in the Swinton Handicap Hurdle at Haydock. On his only outing so far this season at Leopardstown's Christmas Festival, Slevin held his mount up out the back as fog descended over the field, but eagle-eyed viewers couldn't help notice Lark In The Mornin's late headway into seventh place.
The British handicapper has only upped his mark by an extra two pounds to 132, which seems incredibly lenient to me.

- Tip 1 - Lark In The Mornin (9/2)
- Tip 2 - Valgrand (7/1)
2:40pm Cheltenham - Mares' Chase Tips
Cheltenham hasn't been a lucky venue for the market leader. Dinoblue has carried short prices into the Mares' Novices' Hurdle, the Grand Annual and the Mares' Chase, and has failed to win on all three occasions. The favourite will have to give the field weight once again and, despite a strong finish to push Limerick Lace 12 months ago, I'm still not convinced that two-and-a-half miles is her favourite trip.
Limerick Lace was my NAP 12 months ago, but she's shown no form this season and the ground shouldn't be anywhere near as soft as it was 12 months ago. I'm going to side with Gavin Cromwell again, but this time I'm going with BRIDES HILL (7/1), who should be much better suited by the conditions.
Gavin Cromwell's eight-year-old missed out when the rain arrived 12 months ago, but went on to hammer Allegorie De Vassy and Instit with a wide-margin success at the Punchestown Festival. Although she's been beaten on her two starts in Britain this term, Brides Hill was carrying a penalty on both occasions and didn't run badly at all behind the progressive Telepathique on her most recent outing at Huntingdon.
Keith Donoghue has seemingly chosen to ride Brides Hill over Limerick Lace, which tells you that she must be the stable's number one. As long as we don't get any sudden downpours, I fancy she'll go close.

3:20pm Cheltenham - Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle Tips
I was fortunate enough to tip the first two horses home (33/1 and 18/1) in last year's
Albert Bartlett. Chances of something similar happening again are very slim, but I've found two outsiders to back against the market leaders.
FLICKER OF HOPE (16/1) has taken the handicap route to Cheltenham's penultimate Grade One. Mark Fahey's six-year-old won his first two starts in three mile handicap hurdles in Ireland and completed a hat-trick with an impressive Listed success at Navan in December.
Although his winning run came to an end at the Dublin Racing Festival, Flicker Of Hope still ran a cracking race to finish third behind two Leopardstown specialists in Perceval Legallois and Gaoth Chuil. A bit of decent ground won't harm his chances and he's already proven himself multiple times over this distance.
Then there's MA SHANTOU (40/1) for that excellent trainer of stayers, Emma Lavelle. Lavelle's six-year-old went into the River Don on the back of two victories over intermediate trips at Warwick and Windsor, with Harry Cobden in the saddle on both occasions.
Rex Dingle's mount was backed into favouritism for that Grade Two at Doncaster, but put in a novicey performance. By the time Ma Shantou settled enough to really knuckle down, Yellow Car and Moon Rocket were away and gone, but the way in which the favourite hit the line back in third was still encouraging.
Ma Shantou proved that day that he could see out three miles and Harry Cobden returns to the saddle on Friday. A more composed pair of hands could bring about further improvement.

4:00pm Cheltenham - Gold Cup Tips
A hat-trick of Gold Cup wins would put Galopin Des Champs in the same pantheon as Arkle and Best Mate. There have been comparisons with Kauto Star in recent weeks, and rightly so. Barring a calamity, I can't see anything being good enough to stop the favourite from creating history.
Despite some fairly sketchy leaps, CORBETTS CROSS (16/1) ran out a hugely impressive winner of the 2024 National Hunt Chase. We've seen Native River, Minella Rocco and Galvin star in that novices' chase before going on to challenge in recent Gold Cups. The fact that Corbetts Cross has won at the Festival, and over that 3m6f trip, has to boost his chances significantly.
Corbetts Cross isn't a brilliant jumper. That was exposed in the King George, where Derek O'Connor's mount couldn't cope with the pace of the race. Mullins' raider spent much of that contest toiling at the rear of the field, so I was surprised to see Corbetts Cross eventually cross the line sixth, just behind The Real Whacker and beaten favourite, Spillane's Tower.
Again in the Ascot Chase, Corbetts Cross' jumping didn't stand up to the pace of the race. Emmet said that might be the case going into that Grade One, but was keen to get another run into his star chaser before the Gold Cup.
Returning to Cheltenham and the step up in trip are two huge positives for Corbetts Cross. Jack Kennedy picked up the ride aboard Minella Indo when he won the Gold Cup in 2021 and Kennedy has picked up another lively spare this year. I'm fully expecting Galopin Des Champs to win, but Corbetts Cross isn't there to make up the numbers.

4:40pm Cheltenham - Hunter Chase Tips
I won't pretend to be an expert in point-to-point racing and, quite frankly, I never watch Hunter Chases when they appear on a regular card. This is the race that would interest me least from a betting standpoint.
When I looked at this race ante-post, the only horse who interested me was WHAT A GLANCE (33/1). Tom Britten's charge took a while to warm to point-to-point racing, but found his feet last term and impressed with an 11-length triumph in the Junior Jumpers Open Hunters' Chase here at Cheltenham in May.
Murray Dodds' mount then claimed Champion Hunters' Chase glory at Stratford, swooping into the lead on the approach to the final flight before kicking four lengths clear of the pack. Since then, What A Glance has finished second twice between the flags, losing out to Allmankind at Horseheath before a slightly disappointing defeat on his prep-run for Cheltenham at Buckfastleigh.
What A Glance is an extremely strong stayer, and did his best work in the closing stages during both spring victories. Britten is assistant trainer to Shropshire-based trainer Alastair Ralph and this horse is owned by his Grandmother, Ann Taylor. The family were delighted when What A Glance struck here in May, and a Festival winner would taste even sweeter.

5:20pm Cheltenham - Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle Tips
While this race usually goes the way of a fancied runner, favourites have a dreadful record. Sir Des Champs remains the only favourite to claim victory in the
Martin Pipe and I'm hoping that trends continues this year, as I'm going to take Kopeck Des Mee on. I've backed
WODHOOH (4/1) at 12/1 and Gordon Elliott's mare looks to have a massive chance.
Woodhooh has won all six of her starts over hurdles, including a pair of Listed victories in juvenile races last term. On her only start of the season thus far, Gilligan guided Elliott's five-year-old to an impressive handicap win here at Cheltenham, where an excellent jump at the last allowed Wodhooh to pull two lengths clear of the pack on the run to the line.
Behind Wodhooh that day was William Hill Handicap Hurdle winner Joyeuse, who has been supplemented for the Mares' Hurdle. Third-placed Take No Chances will also run in that Grade One after beating Kargese at Ascot. Royal Margeaux finished fourth and has hacked up in a Listed race since.
Considering the strength of that form, I was expecting the British handicapper to push Wodhooh up to 144, maybe even 145. Yet, he chose to give Elliott's mare just two extra pounds, meaning she'll shoulder 11-8 in Friday's finale.
At a longer price, NO QUESTIONS ASKED (20/1) catches my eye. Ben Pauling's charge finished sixth in the Grade Two bumper at Aintree last season and won two of his first three starts over hurdles, before running a cracker to finish a close second behind Califet En Vol in the Sidney Banks at Huntingdon.
No Questions Asked warmed up for the Festival with an easy victory at Ludlow, where the track didn't seem to suit him at all. Pauling decided to run here rather than take up his entry in the Turners' Novices' Hurdle on day two and Callum Pritchard - the breakout apprentice of the season in the UK - has been booked to ride.
Martin Pipe 2025 Tips
