Kim Muir Key Trends

  • 9 of the last 10 winners carried 11-04 or more
  • 9 of the last 10 winners rated between 137 and 143
  • 9 of the last 10 winners had run at least 3 times that season
  • 9 of the last 10 winners had run in at least two Graded races
  • 8 of the last 10 winners were seven or eight-years-old

The talking horse going into this year's Kim Muir is certainly Stumptown. Gavin Cromwell's six-year-old has jumped beautifully on his last two starts, winning over two-and-a-half miles at Thurles and three at Sandown last time out. Stumptown should have no trouble getting into this race off his current mark of 135 and Barry O'Neill has been booked to ride. I wouldn't put anyone off backing the favourite, but 4/1 is too short for me.

Kim Muir Tips

With Jamie Codd confirmed in the saddle, I'd give a strong chance to DUNBOYNE, who travels to Cheltenham on the back of a fantastic effort in the Thyestes Handicap, where Gordon Elliott's novice finished a close second behind favourite Carefully Selected.

Elliott's eight-year-old is a real mudlark. All of Dunboyne's wins have come on soft or heavy ground. Codds' mount couldn't get involved from out the back in the Pertemps Final last season, but he's already proven himself much more effective over fences and the forecast will fill Gordon Elliott with plenty of hope.

I'm also going to back RAPPER in the Kim Muir, who always seems to run well at Cheltenham - apart from when I tipped him in the Ultima last season.

Henry Daly's nine-year-old bolted up over this course-and-distance at Cheltenham on New Years Day and ran a very good race when fifth under 12-00 around Sandown last time out. Alice Stevens takes three pounds off Rapper's back, and she's no stranger to the winner's enclosure at Cheltenham, having ridden Jimmy The Digger to victory during the October meeting.

Verdict

Dunboyne and Rapper are our two against the field in the 2023 Kim Muir.
