2024 Irish Champion Hurdle Tips - State Man
It's impossible to knock STATE MAN. Willie Mullins' star has been flawless since stepping up into Grade One company, winning all seven of his starts on home soil and finding only the great Constitution Hill too good in last season's Champion Hurdle.
I backed Impaire Et Passe against his stablemate when the two met for the first time over Christmas. Impaire Et Passe got a lovely toe into the race, attempting to pull upsides the favourite on the approach to the last. Daryl Jacob's mount jumped a little out to his right at the final flight, but State Man had already quickened away from his rival and Impaire Et Passe couldn't bridge the gap on the short run to the line.
There were no excuses for Impaire Et Passe that day, he was simply beaten by a better, quicker horse. Mullins' second string remains a very good horse and I could see him producing a similarly strong performance. 4/1, however, isn't a good enough incentive to take State Man on again.
Bob Olinger has rediscovered his mojo in recent starts, but Rachael Blackmore's mount has no two-mile form that suggests he's up to this mammoth task. Echoes In Rain has been beaten all ends up by State Man on her two starts this season and Fils D'oudairies will be hoping to snatch place money once again.

Verdict
At 2/7, I won't be having a single bet on State Man. This will merely be a watching brief, as Paul Townend's mount attempts to defend his Irish Champion Hurdle crown.
