2023 Savills Chase Tips - Gold Cup king to bounce back at Leopardstown
The 2023 Savills Chase, part of Leopardstown's Christmas Festival, is set to be an exciting race. Currently, 'Galopin Des Champs' and 'Fastorslow' are leading the bettors' choices. This racing event promises to play a deciphering role in the forthcoming Cheltenham Gold Cup. Despite recent defeats, 'Galopin Des Champs' is expected to shine through given his excellent record at Leopardstown.

Leopardstown's Christmas Festival is headlined by the Savills Chase, which takes place on day three of the meeting. Since its creation in 1986, this three-mile chase has been won by many of the sport's finest chasers, with great names like Best Mate, Beef Or Salmon, Denman and Bobs Worth featuring on the roll of honour.

2023 Savills Chase Tips - Galopin Des Champs
The Cheltenham Gold Cup picture will become a whole lot clearer after this fantastic Grade One. The top three in the betting for the Cheltenham Festival's showpiece event are set to take part, after Gerri Colombe was rerouted from the King George.
I didn't fancy Gordon Elliott's charge at Kempton, fearing the quick ground and the sharp track would catch this thorough stayer out. An unexpected band of rain crashed into Leopardstown on Wednesday, turning the ground firmly in Gerri Colombe's favour. Elliott's star could even go off as the favourite for Thursday's feature, but I still have my reservations about Jack Kennedy's mount around this sharp track.
I wouldn't back Envoi Allen in a three-mile Grade One away from Down Royal. Gordon Elliott's inclination to run Conflated in the Cross Country at Cheltenham suggests that he doesn't feel his nine-year-old can still cut it at the highest level. A Plus Tard is of interest at 16/1, but there are so many uncertainties surrounding the former Gold Cup hero, that I'm not prepared to part with any cash.
GALOPIN DES CHAMPS and Fastorslow will renew their rivalry in the Savills Chase. Martin Brassil's star has proved himself of Gold Cup standard by beating his rival in both the Punchestown Gold Cup and the John Durkan, so a third Grade One triumph in a row is certainly not out of the equation.
That being said, Galopin Des Champs can be excused for those defeats. Willie Mullins' star looked a little sluggish at Punchestown in April, five weeks on from that stunning Gold Cup success. Paul Townend's mount then raced lazily again on his reappearance in the John Durkan, and was still only beaten by two lengths.
Galopin Des Champs was imperious in winning twice over fences at Leopardstown as a novice and won the Irish Gold Cup back here in February. This track is ideal for Willie Mullins' seven-year-old and the Gold Cup king produced his two best performances of last season on soft ground. If money comes for Gerri Colombe, Galopin Des Champs could even go off at a nice price.
