The Punchestown Festival 2025 Day 1 features top-notch racing action with lucrative betting prospects. Key picks include Blue Hop in the Albert Bartlett Triple Crown Series Final, Wilful in Killashee Hotel Handicap Hurdle, Irancy in the Champion Novice Hurdle, and Impaire Et Passe in the Champion Novice Chase. British raiders, notably Blue Hop and Wilful, are expected to perform well. Willie Mullins' runners, particularly Irancy and Impaire Et Passe, offer value in Grade One contests. The final major meeting of the National Hunt season begins in Ireland on Tuesday, as the 202 Punchestown Festival gets underway. Punchestown's version of the Champion Chase tops the billing on day one, with two further Grade Ones featuring on a stacked card.
Being more of a value tipster than a "lump on the favourite" kind of punter, I've always enjoyed the Punchestown Festival. You can get some strange results at this season-ending spectacular, and usually funny results equal long-odds winners!
Punchestown Festival 2025 Day 1 Tips - Tuesday 29th April
3:05pm Punchestown - Albert Bartlett Triple Crown Series Final Handicap Hurdle Tips
British raiders have a good record in the handicaps at the Punchestown Festival and it's nice to see plenty of raiders entered on day one. Most of the British runners will take part in this series final, which Tom Lacey's Tune In A Box won 12 months ago, and I fancy BLUE HOP (14/1) could strike another blow for the raiders.
Ben Brookhouse dropped his eight-year-old back to hurdling after struggling over fences last term. Blue Hop scored over three miles at Doncaster in January, before an excellent second behind Samuel Spade in a valuable contest at Ascot the following month.
Blue Hop saw off a couple of the rivals he faces on Tuesday during an impressive win at Wetherby at the end of March, where Jack Quinlan's mount travelled superbly well and jumped neatly. Brookhouse has managed to secure the services of Rachael Blackmore for this Irish assignment and, together, they offer decent value at 14/1.
3:40pm Punchestown - Killashee Hotel Handicap Hurdle Tips
Another British raider worth following is WILFUL (7/1), who comes into this on the back of an impressive victory at Ayr 18 days ago, and I'm expecting another strong performance from the O'Neill's six-year-old.
Wilful won three times in novice hurdles between March and August in 2024, but front-running tactics didn't pay dividends on his first couple of starts in competitive two-and-a-half mile handicaps. Jonjo O'Neill Jnr's mount was hammered into 18/5 favouritism ahead of the Morebattle Hurdle at Kelso, but emptied quickly having again attempted to make all, and was pulled up well before the end.
Under more patient tactics at Ayr, Wilful tanked into the contest and saw off the talented Kingston James late on, as the first two pulled miles clear of a decent chasing pack. This fresh mark of 128 doesn't seem overly harsh and O'Neill's raider is proven on decent ground.

4:15pm Punchestown - Champion Novice Hurdle Tips
Willie Mullins boasts a near 75% win record in the Grade Ones at the Punchestown Festival in recent years, and that percentage increases when you look at just the novice races. Four of the six runners in this Grade One will be saddled by the Champion Trainer, including Kopek Des Bordes, who beat Willie's other three entrants quite comfortably in the Supreme at Cheltenham.
Salvator Mundi was a huge drifter at Cheltenham and went on to confirm his talent with a Grade One victory at Aintree. IRANCY (9/1) has also boosted the Supreme form since finishing seventh at the Festival, having held off four of his Closutton stablemates to land the Grade Two Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse.
Irancy went into Cheltenham having run just once during the regular season. The JP McManus-owned gelding powered to an impressive maiden victory here at Punchestown, beating a handful of future winners with ease. Irancy again showed a liking for good ground and going right-handed with that cosy triumph at Fairyhouse and I'll be backing Mullins' third-string each-way against Kopek Des Bordes - if Irancy drifts out to a double-figure price.
4:50pm Punchestown - Champion Novice Chase Tips
Willie Mullins will, again, play a very strong hand in this Grade One. Ballyburn is favourite, despite a poor showing in the Brown Advisory at Cheltenham. Lecky Watson claimed a shock victory that day, in a race where none of the runner particularly impressed in the jumping department.
IMPAIRE ET PASSE (5/1) skipped Cheltenham in favour of the Manifesto Novices' Chase at Aintree. Mullins' raider was smuggled into the race by Paul Townend and ran out a comfortable winner, despite a couple of novicey jumps at the final two obstacles.
JJ Slevin's mount has won more Grade Ones than Ballyburn and Lecky Watson combined. He won both of his starts around Punchestown in high-profile novice hurdles. In-fact, he's only been beaten once six starts going right-handed, and that came in the 2023 Hatton's Grace, where he was beaten a length by Teahupoo. Mullins' seven-year-old has won plenty of good races on fairly fast ground too. This trip is an unknown, but at 5/1, Impaire Et Passe offers plenty of value.
