Punchestown Tips - Friday 30th April

Race 1 - Bishopscourt Cup Tips

Alpha Male3:40pm Paddy Power Hunters Chase for the Bishopscourt Cup 2m4fGET 15/8 HERE
New customers only. 18+ T&Cs and wagering requirements apply.

ALPHA MALE was a seven-year-old when he won this race in 2018. Peter Maher's charge ran well again as he attempted to defend his crown 12 months later, losing out narrowly to Flirting Leesa, who was getting almost a stone-and-a-half at the weights.

Rewritetherules tops the betting here, despite the fact he hasn't won any of his last 12 races, was pulled-up at Aintree last time out and has to give stacks of weight to the field. For me, Alpha Male is the best bet.

Race 2 - Novice Handicap Chase Tips

Asterion Forlonge will attempt to carry top-weight to victory here, and he certainly has the class to do so, if he can shrug off a series of poor performances at Grade One level.

The one I'd rather back each-way is PORT STANLEY, who was touched off by The Very Man at Cork three weeks ago. Jessica Harrington's seven-year-old was narrowly beaten by Front View and Aramax in beginners chases over two miles in the winter, and that runner-up finish last time out was his best effort over this sort of trip.

Harrington fired in two winners on Wednesday, and she could be celebrating another festival success on Friday.

Race 3 - Mares Handicap Chase Tips

I'm keen to side with WAITNSEE, whose form over fences this season reads really well. John Ryan campaigned his mare throughout the summer, where she twice finished within three lengths of Galvin over two-and-a-half miles. Waitnsee was then beaten into second by Home By The Lee in a Grade Three at Cork in November, finishing two places ahead of The Shunter in the process.

After a brief winter break, Waitnsee was beaten a long way behind very classy horses like Colreevy, Elimay and Conflated. Kevin Brouder than gave Waitnsee a cracking ride to win a Grade Three at Cork, where she came through late on to beat several capable rivals with a little left in her pocket.

Ryan has decided the time is right to finally throw Waitnsee into a handicap, and the conditions of this race should suit her perfectly.

Race 5 - Champion Novice Hurdle Tips

I'm a huge BOB OLINGER fan. I've backed him to win every time he's run so far this season, and I'm not going to desert him here.

Gaillard Du Mesnil was comfortably beaten seven lengths in the Ballymore, and the testing nature of the track at Cheltenham would have suited this future three-mile chaser more. Ashdale Bob and N'golo have plenty to find. Ganapathi has been poor the last twice. Bob Olinger is unopposable.

Race 6 - Champion Hunters Chase Tips

Caid Du Berlais6:35pm Irish Daily Star Champion Hunters Chase 3mGET 7/2 HERE

Will Biddick guided CAID DU BERLAIS to a superb 28-length triumph in this race 24 months ago. Sam Loxton has only turned his 12-year-old out twice this season, and Caid Du Berlais has looked as good as ever, winning at Wincanton and Warwick without coming off the bridle.

Loxton skipped possible runs at Cheltenham and Aintree to focus on the defence of his Punchestown crown. Billaway, Bob And Co and Staker Wallace may be popular in the betting, but I prefer the proven class and course form of Caid Du Berlais.

Race 7 - Novice Hurdle Tips

Keskonrisk7:05pm SalesSense International Novice Hurdle 2mGET 3/1 HERE
18+ only. Ts and Cs apply. Gamble responsibly.

Willie Mullins runs five in this competitive novice hurdle, with M C Muldoon bringing the best form to the table of the Closutton quintet. KESKONRISK is the one they all have to beat though, after Joseph O'Brien decided to come here instead of a third Grade One outing of the season.

Following a snug maiden victory at Fairyhouse, Keskonrisk stayed on well to place third behind Appreciate It over Christmas. Nothing went to plan in the Ballymore, where Keskonrisk looked beaten from an early stage. This drop in both class and trip should ensure O'Brien's budding star ends his season on a positive note.

Race 8 - INH Flat Race Tips

Not a big bet in the finale, but I will have a little dabble on STONE MAD, who'll make his career debut under Derek O'Connor.

Martin Brassil's newcomer is a full sibling to Tintangle, who's won over hurdles and fences for Gordon Elliott, and also won a Listed bumper during her first season in training. Brassil has fitted a tongue tie straight away, and he appeals at an each-way price.
