The 2025 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket saw Gewan deliver an unexpected and thrilling victory at 22/1 odds. Despite facing tough competition from top juveniles like Gstaad and Distant Storm, Gewan's remarkable performance ensured a runaway win, making him a leading contender for the 2000 Guineas. Aidan O'Brien's Gstaad showed promise by securing the second position, while Charlie Appleby's Distant Storm came third. This race has reshaped the outlook for the upcoming season and the 2000 Guineas betting scene, with Gewan now seen as a significant player.

Three of the sport's top juveniles clashed in the Dewhurst Stakes, at Newmarket, where the winner was sure to jump to the head of the market for next year's 2000 Guineas.

Gstaad was beaten by Eve Johnson Houghton Zavateri in the National Stakes at the Curragh. However, Aidan O'Brien's colt came in for significant support on the day and was backed into favouritism, ahead of Charlie Appleby's runaway Tattersalls Stakes winner, Distant Storm.

Despite his excellent form, Zavateri was weak in the market, drifting out to 6/1 before the off. Champagne Stakes runner-up, Oxagon was fairly solid in the market, with Aidan O'Brien's second-string Italy available at 16s.

Gewan flopped as the favourite in the Champagne Stakes, but was fancied by some to bounce back with a strong showing. Clifford Lee and Karl Burke teamed up with Alparslan. Charlie Appleby's outsiders Pacific Avenue and Saba Desert were drawn out on the flanks.

Pacific Avenue broke well from stall one and made the running along the inside. Oxagon and Gewan tracked the leader in the early stages, with Zavateri travelling well in the second rank.

Alparslan headed a small group on the stand's rail. Gstaad was a little keen but tracked Karl Burke's front-runner, as William Buick kept tabs on the favourite aboard Distant Storm.

Going into the dip, James Doyle committed aboard Gewan. The leader tracks right over to the stand's rail and quickly opened up a lead.

Gstaad didn't look entirely comfortable on the track, rolling around under Christophe Soumillon. Aidan O'Brien's star organised himself once he met the rising ground, but the bird had already flown.

Gewan grabbed the rail and kept finding, pouring the pressure on during the final 100 yards, and hit the line a clear winner of the 2025 Dewhurst Stakes.

Gstaad kept on to finish a clear second, with Distant Storm a well-beaten third. Zavateri who, like the runner-up, didn't seem to handle the track all that well back in fourth.

bet365 was one of many bookmakers to cut Gewan into 12/1 for next year's 2000 Guineas, having pushed the winner out to 50/1 following the Champagne Stakes. Gstaad and Distant Storm drifted out to 14s and 16s for next year's colt's Classic, with Zavateri moving out further to 25s.
