The final Group One of the flat racing season saw eight talented juveniles enter the stalls ahead of the 2024 Futurity Trophy.

Aidan O'Brien has won this contest a record 11 times and money came for his Autumn Stakes winner, Delacroix before the off. James Owen's Wimbledon Hawkeye had topped the betting for much of the build-up, but drifted a little as punters put their faith in Ryan Moore's mount.

John and Thady Gosden were double-handed, with supplementary entry Nebras joining the unbeaten Detain in the field. Royal Playwright and Seaplane were backed at each-way prices on the morning of the contest, and both moved ahead of Anno Domini and Hotazhell in the market before the stalls burst open.

Delacroix was the last to enter his stall and Ryan Moore was the first to show, pushing the favourite to the front of the field. Seaplane was also taken forward early, as the tightly-packed field galloped down the centre of the track.

Wimbledon Hawkeye and Hotazhell took second-rank, ahead of Detain and Royal Playwright. The inexperienced Nabras was very keen at the rear of the field, where he was joined by William Buick and Anno Domini.

Moore started to get to work on the favourite with two furlongs to travel, pushing his mount into the lead. Seaplane tried valiantly to keep tabs on Delacroix, as Shane Foley and Hotazhell muscled his way into contention between the leaders.

Soon, the two Irish horses opened up a clear lead. Delacroix drifted right into Hotazhell continuously in the closing stages, but that didn't stop Shane Foley's mount from claiming the upper hand. A late dive on the line from Delacroix forced a photo finish, but it was Jessica Harrington and Shane Foley who came out on top, with Hotazhell returning an incredible SP of 11/1.

Wimbledon Hawkeye got a little lost in the middle of the pack at a crucial stage, but James Owen will have been pleased to see his stable star stay on to finish third ahead of the valiant Seaplane. Anno Domini's challenge from the rear was only good enough for fifth ahead of Detain. Royal Playwright and Nebras both failed to feature.

Hotazhell instantly received fresh quotes for the 2025 2000 Guineas following his victory. Harrington's new star is priced up at 16/1 for that Classic with Boylesports, who also list Delacroix at 25/1.
