Victories for The Lion In Winter and Los Angeles saw Aidan O'Brien go into the Juddmonte International Stakes looking to land a treble on the opening day of the Ebor Festival.
Once the odds-on favourite, City Of Troy did drift out to 11/8 on the morning of the race, but O'Brien's Epsom Derby and Coral-Eclipse winner went into the stalls as the 5/4 favourite. Best-backed in opposition was Pretty Polly Stakes winner, Bluestocking, who went to the International rather than a showdown with her own sex in the Yorkshire Oaks.
Derby runner-up, Ambiente Friendly was fancied as he dropped back down in trip. Impressive Royal Ascot winner, Calandagan made the trip over from France, along with Prince Of Wales's Stakes runner-up, Zarakem.
Alflaila and Israr represented owners Shadwell in Wednesday's Group One feature. Ghostwriter was the final three-year-old in this year's International. Durezza flew the flag for Japan, with Maljoom, Docklands and Royal Rhyme also featuring in the field.

Hans Anderson was on pacemaking duties in both the King George and the Coral-Eclipse. Wayne Lordan attempted to make his way to the front again, but it was City Of Troy who broke best of all and Ryan Moore was more than happy to make the running.
Royal Rhyme kept the favourite honest early on, with Hans Anderson and Durezza sitting second rank. Ghostwriter was very keen in the early stages, with Docklands and Alflaila out the back early on.
Turning for home, Moore allowed City Of Troy to stride on and the favourite soon opened up a commanding lead. Calandagan took a while to get rolling from off the pace, but Stephane Pasquier's mount found top gear with two furlongs to travel and took aim at the leader.
Just when it seemed like the attendees at York were set for a fantastic battle, City Of Troy found a little extra. Calandagan's effort flattened out in the closing stages, and Ryan Moore stood up in the saddle as City Of Troy claimed his third Group One win in a row.
To his credit, Ghostwriter kept on well to finish third, as the three three-year-olds pulled a long way clear of the chasing pack. Bluestocking was the best of the rest back in fourth, crossing the line ahead of the Japanese raider Durezza and the staying-on Royal Rhyme.
Everyone was hoping for a spectacular performance, and City Of Troy produced just that. Aidan O'Brien's star broke the ten-furlong track record and he did it the hard way, from the front!
