2024 St James's Palace Stakes Result and Replay - Rosallion sees off Henry Longfellow at Ascot

For the first time in over a decade, three Guineas winners met in the St James's Palace Stakes.
Notable Speech defeated Rosallion to win the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and he topped the Ascot betting. Rosallion followed up by landing the Irish Guineas and Richard Hannon's star was fancied by many to return the Newmarket form.
Surprise French Guineas winner, Metropolitan was supplemented into this Group One, but drifted badly on the day of the race. Henry Longfellow made his return to Britain after flopping in that French Classic. Alyanaabi, Almaqam, Unquestionable and another French raider, Darlinghurst also featured in the field.

The Ballydoyle pair were first to show, with Unquestionable moving forward to lead Henry Longfellow, who slotted in from a wide draw.
The French pair of Metropolitan and Darlinghurst settled in the second rank. Seven Levey positioned Rosallion on the rail, with William Buick sitting happily at the rear aboard Notable Speech.
Unquestionable pressed on as the field turned for home, and soon gave way as Henry Longfellow jumped to the front. Buick was forced widest of all aboard Notable Speech, who looked like he was going to pick up, but his challenge eventually flattened out.
Sean Levey, meanwhile, chose to pick his path through the field aboard Rosallion. The gaps opened at the right time and Rosallion pounced, tracking Henry Longfellow into contention before forging a length clear in the closing stages.
Metropolitan gave the French Guineas form a nice boost by staying on powerfully to finish third ahead of the fading Unquestionable. Alyanaabi crossed the line fifth, with the two horses who were held up early on finishing near the rear.
