The red carpet was rolled out for Field Of Gold, as John and Thady Gosden's star went for a hat-trick of Group One wins in the Sussex Stakes.
Henri Matisse was no match for Field Of Gold when the two met at Royal Ascot, but lined up in opposition again. Rosallion sat closest to the market leader in the betting, but Richard Hannon's star has to give the three-year-olds eight pounds at the weights.
Docklands, who beat Rosallion at Royal Ascot, drifted out to 33/1 before the off. Carl Spackler was having his final run in Britain before joining up with Ciaron Maher in Australia. Suppelementary entry Qirat, and Aidan O'Brien's second-string Serengeti were expected to make the running for the market principals.

Qirat was the quickest out of the stalls and made the early running. Serengeti, in contrast, was the slowest out the stalls, but still managed to find his way to the front and soon opened up a clear advantage.
Henri Mattise sat third, some eight lengths adrift of the front-runners at the halfway stage. Rosallion travelled nicely next to Aidan O'Brien's first string, with Field Of Gold and Carl Spackler sitting near the rear.
At the top of the hill, Serengeti began to give way. Richard Kingscote was still sitting comfortably aboard Qirat, and the second pacemaker took up the running.
Sean Levey, Ryan Moore and William Buick were hard at work. Field Of Gold attempted to find full stride, but the favourite soon began to hang towards the inside rail and John Gosden's star ran out of steam.
Henri Matisse found full stride along the rail and Rosallion had Qirat in his crosshairs. Yet, Ralph Beckett's front-runner still had a little more left in the tank, and held on gamely to return an astronomical price.
Rosallion, again, runs a blinder back in second, with Henri Matisse finishing third. Field Of Gold's bubble burst in spectacular style, and Goodwood was left in stunned silence.
