The third member of Justin Snaith's squad for the 2026 Durban July is the talented four-year-old, Native Ruler.

Snaith's gelding finished a decent sixth on his first crack at the Durban July last year, and opened his 2025/26 campaign with a victory over a mile at Kenilworth. Native Ruler was again sent off at 66/1 on his second Group One assignment in the Cape Town Met, and ran another solid race to finish fifth behind stablemate See It Again.

Keegan De Melo took the ride on Native Ruler as he stepped up to a mile-and-a-half in the recent Winter Stakes here at Greyville. The 9/4 second-favourite claimed a comfortable success, quickening up well from off the pace to claim a cosy one-length success.

De Melo keeps his spot in the saddle of Native Ruler for the 2026 Durban July. Justin Snaith's star will wear the aquamarine and grey silks of owners Greg & Gina Bortz, and will break from stall ten in Saturday's main event.
