The 2026 Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown is shaping up to be an exciting Group One contest, bringing together top middle-distance three-year-olds and older horses. The odds are led by Constitution River and Gethin, with uncertainty over Constitution River’s participation after Aidan O'Brien's comments. Other notable contenders include Hawk Mountain, Saddadd, and Opera Ballo, while several horses are unlikely to run after recent defeats or are being considered for alternate targets. Racing fans can look forward to a high-quality field and thrilling competition.

2026 Coral-Eclipse Stakes Entries

Constitution River looked set to run in the Eclipse Stakes following his victory in the Prix du Jockey Club. However, Aidan O'Brien has since dropped a bombshell by claiming that his top three-year-old colt could be given a summer break, and Owen Burrow's four-year-old Gethin - a close second to Ombudsman in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes here at Sandown - has now joined Constitution River at the head of the market.

If the French Derby winner doesn't run at Sandown, then Hawk Mountain will be Aidan O'Brien's number one runner. Hawk Mountain was a Group One winner at two and finished second to Constutition River in that French Classic.

Saddadd ran out an impressive winner of the Gordon Richards Stakes here in April, and comes into the Eclipse on the back of an excellent third in the Tattersalls Gold Cup. Donnacha O'Brien has stated that Prix du Jockey Club fourth, A Boy Named Susie is being trained for a tilt at this lucrative Group One.

Opera Ballo and Gstaad also sit prominently in the market, but neither seems a likely runner after narrow defeats over a mile at Royal Ascot. Ed Walker's Group One winner Almaqam could be turned out quickly after a fourth-place finish in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes. The Eclipse is also an option for runaway Coronation Cup winner, George Scott's Bay City Roller.

Most of the 42 entrants here won't be taking up their Sandown entries. A few who could include Jessica Harrington's Hotazhell, Almeric for the Andrew Balding team, French star Facteur Cheval, and another Aidan O'Brien colt, Endorsement.
