Turffontein racecourse hosts a decent card today, with the first race set to go off at 11:05am (UK Time). To help you try and find a few winners, here are Magic Tips' South African Horse Racing selections for today.

Turffontein Tips - Saturday 9th August

Race 1 - CLEVER TREVOR (3)

LOVING THE VICTORY ran a good race when finishing third over this C&D, four weeks ago. She set the pace that day and stayed on nicely at the finish. She is likely to adopt the same tactics this afternoon and S’manga Khumalo may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

Race 2 - CRUSADE’S STAR (1)

CRUSADE’S STAR followed up his maiden win with a good third-place finish over this C&D. It must be noted that there have been multiple winners from that form line. He meets a similar type of field and from pole position, may be the one to side with.

Race 3 - TJOKLIT (10)

TJOKLIT has finished third in his last three starts over 1400m on the turf. It must be noted that the horse that finished second in his last start has come out and won since. The son of Querari has a wide draw to overcome, but he is likely to use his early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy.

Race 3 - SOVEREIGN SOLDIER (10)

SOVEREIGN SOLDIER had to overcome the widest draw on the turf last time and ran on from last. He is much better on this surface as his previous form shows. Donovan Dillon steps back into the saddle and he can return to winning ways.

Race 4 - BRANDENBURG (9)

BRANDENBURG finished 1.05 lengths behind SMART WILLIAM last time. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. Both of his career victories have come over this distance and the booking of S’manga Khumalo is a big plus.

Clever Trevor (Race 1) is Magic Tips' best bet of the day at Turffontein on Saturday.
