Another brilliant Glorious Goodwood meeting gets underway on Tuesday. The card on day one is headlined by the Group One Goodwood Cup, a race that has been won by all of flat racing's most famous stayers and the betting for this year's renewal is dominated by an Irish raider.

2025 Goodwood Cup Runners

Despite the absence of two-time winner Kyprios, Aidan O'Brien still has a stranglehold on the Goodwood Cup market.

Ryan Moore rides Illinois, who was beaten into second by Trawlerman on his first crack at two mile at Royal Ascot. Wayne Lordan jumps into the saddle of second-favourite Scandinavia, who was last seen destroying his fellow three-year-olds in the Bahrain Trophy.

John and Thady Gosden will saddle the next three runners in the market. James Doyle rides French Master, who cruised to victory in the Copper Horse Handicap on the opening day of the Royal meeting. The Gosden's have also entered Sweet William - second to Kyprios in this race 12 months ago - and lightly-raced four-year-old Military Academy, who was last seen finishing a neck behind Hamish in the Tapster Stakes here at Goodwood.

Oisin Murphy and local trainer, David Menuisier team up with St Leger third Sunway, who'll be looking to end an 11-race losing streak on his first attempt at two miles. Ascot Gold Cup third, Dubai Future represents Saeed bin Suroor. 2021 Goodwood Cup winner, Trueshan completes the field.

2025 Goodwood Cup Tips

Trueshan's participation will likely depend on ground conditions. The going is currently good, but there is some rain in the air over the next 24 hours, so it could be soft enough for Alan King's star to take his chance.

If all of the runners stand their ground, there will be three paid places to play for on Tuesday and I'm going to chance my arm with MILITARY ACADEMY (16/1).

John and Thady Gosden's four-year-old has only run on seven occasions, winning three of his first four starts. Military Academy was beaten into second by Royal Champion - winner of the York Stakes on Saturday - on his seasonal reappearance, before struggling on fast ground out in Bahrain in March.

The Gosden's four-year-old ran a lovely race on his return to action here at Goodwood in June, losing out narrowly to the classy Hamish in the Listed Tapster Stakes. Two miles is a complete unknown, but Fastnet Rock has produced plenty of good stayers and Military Academy won't have to improve much to challenge the leading contenders on Tuesday.
