The middle day of the Royal meeting is headlined by the Ascot Gold Cup, the event's most prestigious race. Former winner Kyprios, who missed defending his title in 2023 due to injury, returns as the odds-on favourite after victories in the Saval Beg and Levmoss Stakes. Key contenders include Gregory, Vauban, Coltrane, and Sweet William, each building on recent stakes wins. Other notable entries come from Aidan O'Brien and several other prominent trainers. The race promises thrilling action with seasoned and fresh contenders competing.

2024 Ascot Gold Cup Entries

An impressive winner of this race two years ago, injury robbed Kyprios of the chance to defend his Gold Cup crown in 2023. Aidan O'Brien's top stayer returned last autumn with two runner-up finishes, and victories in the Saval Beg and Levmoss Stakes this year will see Kyprios return to Royal Ascot as the odds-on Gold Cup favourite.

With defending champion Courage Mon Ami out of the race, the Gosden's and Wathnan Racing will instead be represented by Gregory, who landed the Queen's Vase at this meeting 12 months ago. Willie Mullins' Vauban won the Copper Horse Handicap on day one of last year's meeting, and he'll be looking to build on a promising return to action in the Yorkshire Cup.

Coltrane returns to the Royal meeting on the back of a win in the Sagaro Stakes here at Ascot. Sweet William will be looking to build on a narrow victory in the Henry II Stakes. Caius Chorister was beaten a head in both of those pattern races and she too will take up her Gold Cup entry.

Aidan O'Brien had handed further entries to Continous, Point Lonsdale and Tower Of London. Trawlerman could join stablemates Gregory and Sweet William in the feature on day three of Royal Ascot. Other possible runners include old favourite Trueshan, Prydwen for George Scott, Ian Williams' Enemy and Lillie Langtry Stakes winner, Sumo Sam.
