2026 Preakness Stakes Runners
A lack of star quality in the field has resulted in a wide-open betting heat for this year's Preakness. Riley Mott's Incredibolt - one of the few Kentucky Derby runners that features in this field - tops most markets following a solid sixth-place finish at Churchill Downs.
Steve Asmussen's Chip Honcho will try to bounce back after a disappointing fifth in the Louisiana Derby. Iron Honour has a poor recent run to overcome too, having only finished seventh in the Wood Memorial.
Moving the Preakness from Pimlico to Laurel Park could suit Taj Mahal, who has won all three of his career starts at this venue. Ocelli ran a stunning race in the Kentucky Derby, finishing third having gone off as a 100/1 outsider. Napoleon Solo steps back into Group One company after fifth-place finishes in the Fountain Of Youth and the Wood Memorial.
Jeremiah Englehart's gelding Pretty Boy Miah features fairly prominently in the market, despite a wide draw in stall 14. As does Talkin for Danny Gargan and Todd Fincher's contender The Hell We Did. Kentucky Derby 14th Robusta makes the trip to Laurel Park. Corona De Oro, Great White, Bull By The Horns and Crupper complete the field.
2026 Preakness Stakes Tips
I'm going to chance my arm with NAPOLEON SOLO (9/1), who boasts by far the best juvenile form in this field. Chad Summers' star ran out an emphatic winner of the Champagne Stakes at Belmont in October, beating another of today's runners, Talkin, by a lengthy margin.
Nothing has really worked out for Napoleon Solo during his three-year-old campaign. Summers' colt was comfortably beaten behind Commandment in the Fountain Of Youth, and suffered a three-length defeat in the Wood Memorial.
Paco Lopez's mount missed some crucial work due to foot problems going into that Group Two at Aqueduct. Taking that into account, Napoleon Solo ran well on the front end for 95% of that contest, before fading back to fifth late on.
Lopez will have to track across to the rail from stall ten. Most of the potential pace-setters - him included - have been drawn wide, so that shouldn't really be a problem. I think Napoleon Solo will get this extended trip and, by all accounts, Summers' charge has been working well in the build-up to Saturday's main event.
