When is the 2027 Breeders' Cup?

The Breeders' Cup takes place on Friday 29th October and Saturday 30th October in 2027.

What is the Breeders' Cup?

The Breeders' Cup is one of the biggest meetings in world horse racing, bringing together leading thoroughbreds from America, Europe, Japan and further afield. Staged annually in the United States during late October or early November, the two-day festival features 14 Grade One championships, with more than $34 million in prize money and awards available.

Races take place on both dirt and turf, with separate championships for juveniles, sprinters, milers and middle-distance performers. The Breeders' Cup Classic is the headline event, while the Breeders' Cup Turf, Mile, Distaff and Juvenile are among the other major attractions. First held in 1984, the meeting has become one of the highlights of the international racing calendar.

Where is the Breeders' Cup held?

The 2027 Breeders' Cup will be held at Belmont Park in New York on 29 and 30 October, marking the meeting's first visit to the venue since 2005. Belmont Park underwent an extensive $455 million redevelopment before reopening in 2026, with a new grandstand, upgraded facilities and improvements to the racing surfaces.

The Breeders' Cup moves between different racecourses in the United States, with Keeneland, Santa Anita and Del Mar among its regular hosts. After two successive years at Del Mar in California, the championships returned to Keeneland in Kentucky for 2026.

What races are run during Breeders' Cup?

Day one of the Breeders' Cup is known as Future Stars Friday, and the card features huge two-year-old races like the Juvenile Turf and the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. Nine Grade One races take place on Saturday, including the Breeders' Cup Mile, Breeders' Cup Turf and the Breeders' Cup Classic.

Which horses will run at the Breeders' Cup in 2027?

Top US trainers like Bob Baffert, Chad Brown and Todd Pletcher will point their best horses at the Breeders' Cup. Baffert's Hughes secured an impressive win in this year's Juvenile, and could be pointed at the Breeders' Cup Classic in 2027. Victories for Sun Goddess, Haffner and Benvenuto Cellini cemented Aidan O'Brien's position as the winning-most trainer in Breeders' Cup history, and all three could line up at Belmont next season. Bacio will likely return to defend his Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint crown, while Nitrogen could go for a second-straight victory in the Distaff.

Breeders' Cup History

The Breeders' Cup is a two-day series of racing which features some of the best thoroughbreds from all around the world.

Held in November, the Breeders' Cup is targeted by the biggest stables and the Breeders' Cup Classic and Breeders' Cup Turf excite fans and punters alike.

Horses from all different backgrounds line up for the big prize money and it's a true celebration of the thoroughbred, which is what the founders of the Breeders' Cup were wanting.

In 1982, a group of thoroughbred breeders from Kentucky devised a plan to see which horse was the best in the world.

This culminated in the Breeders' Cup being born and the hopes of racing in the US to be a global event was achieved.

The first running was in 1984 where there were seven premier races on the card and it has now evolved into a 13-race card over two days.

The destination changes from year-to-year but the likes of Del Mar, Churchill Downs and Santa Anita feature prominently.

With the lowest stake on offer being $1 million, the racing on offer for punters to bet on is top-quality and that's why it's quickly becoming one of the biggest racing festivals in the world.
