2026 Haldon Gold Cup Tips - More Aintree success for the favourite?
The 2026 Haldon Gold Cup, relocated to Aintree due to unsafe ground at Exeter, features Mirabad as the main tip. Mirabad, trained by Dan Skelton, is favoured after a strong second in the Panoramic Hurdle and holds Grade One-winning form over this course and distance. With a weight advantage over main rival JPR One and a proven ability to perform at Aintree, Mirabad is expected to be difficult to beat if running to his rating of 155. The other four runners are considered to have limited chances based on recent form.

2026 Haldon Gold Cup Runners
The firm favourite for Friday's renewal is Mirabad, who caught the eye when finishing second on his return in the Panoramic Hurdle at Carlisle. Moving this Grade Two to Aintree will really suit Dan Skelton's star, who claimed top honours during the Grand National Festival, and Mirabad is already verging on even money for Friday's feature.
Joe Tizzard has confirmed recent Cheltenham handicap winner JPR One in the final field, and Jonjo O'Neill Jnr fills in for the injured Brendan Powell. Paul Nicholls will send Rubaud back over fences following his fourth-place finish in the Panoramic Hurdle.
Imposing five-year-old Stencil makes his first start for Tom George in this rescheduled Grade Two. Jack Andrews rides two-time chase winner Daytime Dreaming for Tom Ellis. Anthony Honeyball's Brookie completes the line-up, six days after his reappearance, fourth in a hot handicap at Ascot.
2026 Haldon Gold Cup Tips
JPR One was terrific when winning a big handicap at Cheltenham in October, and he's more than capable of replicating that performance in Friday's feature. Joe Tizzard's star will, however, have to give six pounds to MIRABAD (6/4), who boasts Grade One-winning form over this course and distance.
Mirabad was the 50/1 outsider of the field in the Maghull Novices' Chase but won like an even-money shot under Tristan Durrell. Skelton's seven-year-old was held up and allowed the leading contenders to make mistake after mistake. Durrell produced Mirabad between the final two obstacles and could even afford to bunny-hop the final fence and still leave the flagging Salvator Mundi trailing in his wake.
Skelton's star shaped really well on his return to action in the Panoramic Hurdle. Harry Skelton bided his time at the rear before surging into contention down the outside of the field, eventually finishing a length behind Wilful in second.
Mirabad gained plenty of experience over fences last term and could progress further this season, given his age and connections. If Harry Skelton's mount runs up to his rating of 155, then it's going to be very hard for JPR One to keep Mirabad at arm's length. I don't think the other four runners stand much of a chance.
