2025 King George VI Chase Runners
If all nine of the current entrants stand their ground, this year's King George could end up being the race of the season.
Willie Mullins will send two of his top chasers over to Kempton on Boxing Day. Gaelic Warrior got the better of Ryanair Chase winner, Fact To File when the two met in the John Durkan, and both look likely to take up their King George entries.
Nicky Henderson's Jango Baie shortened up plenty in the King George betting after his impressive win in the 1965 Chase. On the same day, The Jukebox Man made a winning return in a Graduation Chase at Haydock, and Ben Pauling's star has course form after winning the Kauto Star 12 months ago.
Banbridge ran down Il Est Francais to win this historic chase 12 months ago, and Sean Bowen takes the ride on the defending champion. Il Est Francais lines up again, but will have to bounce back after a disappointing effort in the 1965 Chase.
Venetia Williams' Djelo has been in sparkling form this year, and will bid to complete a hat-trick after victories in the Charlie Hall and Peterborough Chases. Two-time Grade One winner Croke Park could represent Gordon Elliott. Nigel and Willy Twiston-Davies' Master Chewy could have his first start over three miles in this brilliant Boxing Day feature.
2025 King George VI Chase Tips
As I've been writing this preview, Fact To File drifted from 11/4 out to 9/2 in the King George betting, before coming back into 7/2 after Willie Mullins spoke to the press. I had planned on putting Mullins' eight-year-old as my selection, as I think he's the best horse in this excellent contest, but that drift has to set off alarm bells for anyone who has backed the Ryanair Chase winner.
Instead, I've landed on JANGO BAIE (3/1). I absolutely loved what Nicky Henderson's star did in the 1965 Chase, and fancy there's more improvement to come from him over this three-mile distance.
Somehow, Jango Baie managed to win the Arkle at this year's Cheltenham Festival. Majborough's erratic jumping opened the door for all of his rivals, and it was Nico de Boinville's mount who capitalised, fighting back after getting outpaced to claim a narrow victory.

Jango Baie did well to finish so close to Handstands in the Scilly Isles, despite clearly hating the heavy ground. After his Arkle triumph, De Boinville's mount was beaten in the Manifesto at Aintree, where he made a few too many errors before staying on down the straight.
Henderson's six-year-old produced a polished display on his reappearance at Ascot, motoring to a nine-length victory over some decent horses. De Boinville's mount relished tracking a fast pace set by Gidleigh Park and Pic D'Orhy, and could get a similar set-up on Boxing Day, with Il Est Francais and The Jukebox Man in the field.
Gaelic Warrior will be a very tough nut to crack, and the likes of The Jukebox Man and Djelo hold a chance. However, Jango Baie is the youngest horse in this field, and looks the sort of pacy three-miler who will excel under these conditions.
