Before Ascot and York take centre-stage on Saturday, both host strong cards on Friday, each headlined by a competitive Listed race.

Here are our best betting tips for Friday's feature races.

2:55pm Ascot - Pat Eddery Stakes Tips

Sonny Parvenue tops the betting, following an impressive debut win at Salisbury. The form of that six-furlong maiden has worked out well too, but I thought Pat Dobbs' mount looked the type who would appreciate softer ground, and conditions are even quicker at Ascot than they were at Salisbury.

I'm happy to take a chance on GYMBAAZY (10/1), who returned odds of 22/1 when scoring on debut at Sandown.

Owen Burrows' newcomer was one of the least-fancied runners in that maiden, for which King's Welcome was backed into odds-on favouritism. Danny Muscutt was forced to bide his time on the rail for much of the contest, but once angled out, Gymbaazy picked up well and stuck his neck out under the shadow of the post to edge out the market leader.

Burrows is excellent at picking and choosing targets for his precocious young horses, often opting for the patient approach. He must feel that the conditions of this contest will suit Gymbaazy, and this fairly cheap purchase looks set for another competitive showing.

7:50pm York - Lyric Fillies' Stakes Tips

Over to York now, where Diamond Rain dominates the market for this Listed contest. Charlie Appleby's mare has finished first and second in the last two renewals of the Hoppings Fillies' Stakes at Newcastle, while also placing in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf, and behind See The Fire in the Middleton Stakes here at York.

Diamond Rain can often be slowly away, as can second-favourite On Message. QILIN QUEEN (13/2) is a confirmed front-runner, and Ed Walker's filly might be able to dominate this contest from the front.

Qilin Queen made all to land the Prix de Malleret last July, and has been running in Group One company ever since. Kieran Shoemark's mount has been well beaten on her last four starts, and only managed to beat one horse home having made the running in the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh last month.

Considering she's been butting heads with the likes of Minnie Hauk, Daryz and Estrange, this represents a fairly steep drop in grade for Qilin Queen. Walker's four-year-old is proven over a mile and a half, so I can't see her wilting in the closing stages, and it'll be up to Diamond Rain and the other runners to peg back this hardy front-runner.
