Takahisa Tezuka's star has progressed nicely since claiming Listed glory on his second two-year-old start. Masquerade Ball claimed Group Three honours on his three-year-old reappearance, placed in both the Japanese 2000 Guineas and the Japanese Derby, before claiming a maiden top-level success in the Tenno Sho at Tokyo in November.
Masquerade Ball was then backed into 6/4 favouritism for the Japan Cup, but was narrowly beaten by Calandagan. Christophe Lemaire's mount then kept on strongly from the rear to follow global superstar Romantic Warrior home on his Hong Kong debut in the QEII Cup.
Tezuka has been eyeing a rematch with Calandagan in the King George since their Japan Cup showdown. Masquerade Ball will be number four on our racecard on Saturday, and he wears the yellow and black striped silks of owners Shadai Race Horse Co Ltd.
