Cheltenham Festival 2024 Tips - Gordon's filly the Triumph play at 16/1

2024 Triumph Hurdle Tips - Kala Conti
Four of the 28 ante-post markets for the Cheltenham Festival are currently headed by British horses. One of those is the Triumph Hurdle, where home runners occupy the first two spots.
Burdett Road and Sir Gino will clash in the opener on Trials Day tomorrow, having impressed during the early stages of their hurdling career. Irish horses have, however, dominated the Triumph in recent years and the key trial for this juvenile hurdle will be run at Leopardstown next weekend.
Storm Heart is the short-priced favourite for the Spring Juvenile Hurdle and he can establish himself as Willie Mullins' top four-year-old heading into Cheltenham. Gordon Elliott's leading juvenile is the filly KALA CONTI (16/1), who's done very little wrong in her short career thus far. Yet, she can be backed at 16/1 for the 2024 Triumph Hurdle, whereas Storm Heart - who won a terrible maiden at Punchestown - is generally available at under half of that price.
A superb winner of a hurdle at Compiegne back in May, Kala Conti sauntered to an easy win on her Irish debut at Navan in November. Jack Kennedy's mount then attempted to make all in the Grade Three Juvenile Hurdle at Fairyhouse, but a sloppy jump at the second-last opened the door for Nurbergring, who held off Elliott's filly in the closing stages as the runner-up tried to rally.
Kala Conti then took a lead for the first time at Leopardstown over Christmas. Elliott's rising star sprinted into the lead rounding the final bend, made a mistake at the final flight, and still had enough left in the tank to repel Kargese and Nurbergring on the run to the line.
There's no doubt that the bookmakers have underestimated Kala Conti's achievements during the first half of the season. On the whole, her jumping has been superb and you couldn't help but admire the way she stuck to the task at Leopardstown, having stretched badly at the last hurdle.
This daughter of Karaktar might boast a French pedigree, but Kala Conti has a low, quick action, and she's very slick over her obstacles. Her jumping technique is reminiscent of Apple's Jade, who herself finished second in a Triumph Hurdle before going on to win the Mares' Hurdle and numerous other Grade Ones.
Fillies' have won two of the last four renewals of the Triumph Hurdle and it was three fillies who fought out the finish of last year's renewal. Kala Conti has already beaten the colts in Grade Two company and another solid effort at Leopardstown next month will put her bang in Triumph contention.
