Longchamp is currently preparing to stage one of the world's most famous sporting events, as a talented field of flat racers enters the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
First staged in 1920, the Arc quickly become the richest flat race in all of Europe. Many of the sport's greatest horses have left Longchamp with the famous trophy and a stellar cast is set to battle it out in the 2021 renewal next Sunday.

Charlie Appleby is in the midst of his most lucrative season as a trainer, and Godolphin's main man travels to Longchamp with two leading chances.
First up we have Adayar, who won the Epsom Derby in excellent style earlier in the season, before becoming the first Derby winner since the late, great Galileo to follow up in the King George. Adayar missed his prep-run in the Prix Niel after picking up a leg infection. However, Appleby claimed Adayar only missed a couple of day's training, and it shouldn't stop his star three-year-old challenging in the Arc.
Hurricane Lane finished third behind his stablemate when they met in the Epsom Derby. Since then, Appleby's three-year-old has won three Group Ones, including the Irish Derby, the Grand Prix de Paris and, most recently, the St Leger at Doncaster.
Ireland's Finest
Snowfall was the stand-out three-year-old in the sport during the first half of the campaign. Aidan O'Brien's filly followed victory in the Musidora Stakes with a record-breaking victory in the Epsom Oaks, where she demolished the field by 16 lengths.
Having completed the Oaks hat-trick with easy wins at the Curragh and York, Snowfall went off as the 1/5 favourite to win the Prix Vermeille. Yet, to everyone's disbelief, Teona got the better of Snowfall, causing O'Brien's star to slip down the Arc betting.
Snowfall was usurped at the top of the Arc market by Tarnawa, who won two Group Ones at Longchamp last Autumn before scoring in the Breeders' Cup Turf. Dermot Weld's mare returned to action with an effortless win at Leopardstown, and pushed St Mark's Basilica all the way to the line when they clashed in the Irish Champion Stakes.

Japanese Raiders
Takashi Saito has had the Arc in mind for stable star Chrono Genesis ever since her second-place finish behind Mishriff in the Sheema Classic. Chrono Genesis warmed up for her trip to Longchamp by claiming yet another Group One victory in the Takarazuka Kinen, and she'll be ridden by former Champion Jockey, Oisin Murphy.
Her countryman, Deep Bond earned a crack at the Arc by beating Broome in the Prix Foy earlier this month. Ryuji Okubo's four-year-old has been switching between middle distance and staying trips in his homeland, and that Prix Foy triumph was his third victory at Group Two level.
The Home Challenge
You have to scroll quite a long way down the betting before you reach the highest-place French challenger, which tells you a lot about the current state of French flat racing.
Raabihah ended her run of defeats with an easy victory in the Prix de Pomone. Jean-Claude Rouget has decided to skip the Prix de Royallieu in favour of a run in the Arc, but it's hard to see how Raabihah improves on the fifth-place finish she secured behind Sottsass 12 months ago.
Sealiway is a very interesting contender for home fans to latch onto. Cedric Rossi's charge bolted up in the Jean-Luc Lagardere at this meeting last year, and was last seen finishing second to St Mark's Basilica in the Prix du Jockey Club. Baby Rider was only beaten a head by Bubble Gift in the Prix Neil, so he's another that French fans might latch onto.
Overlooked Outsiders
Alenquer defeated Adayar when they met at Sandown earlier in the season. William Haggas' charge then won at Royal Ascot, before finishing third in the Grand Prix de Paris and a strong second behind Mishriff in the Juddmonte International.
Love has struggled a little this season, but could relish the return to a mile-and-a-half, a distance she excelled over as a three-year-old. Broome could also fly the flag for Ballydoyle, having won the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud during a consistent five-year-old campaign.
Mojo Star has finished second in both the Epsom Derby and the St Leger in 2021. Richard Hannon could roll the dice once again and throw his charge into the Arc, and the consistency he's shown so far this term means he cannot be ruled out.

2021 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe Tips - Straight Win
I'm a huge fan of Tarnawa and, at this point in time, she looks the most solid option. Dermot Weld's mare is a course-and-distance winner, she's claimed Group One honours on both heavy and firm ground, and travels to Longchamp on the back of a fantastic effort at Leopardstown.
While she's certainly a worthy favourite, ADAYAR'S (Tipped at 7/2)recent drift in the market makes him, for me, the most appealing betting proposition.
Adam Kirby gave his mount a wonderful ride from the coffin stall at Epsom. Adayar proved far too strong for his rivals that day, beating Hurricane Lane by almost eight lengths. Appleby's three-year-old then met with two multiple Group One winners in Mishriff and Love in the King George, and comfortably held them both at arm's length.
Charlie Appleby seemed confident that the leg infection which ruled Adayar out of the Prix Niel was only a minor issue, and I'm prepared to take him at his word. This big, powerful horse has the constitution to handle whatever ground he's faced with at Longchamp, and Adayar would be a worthy winner of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

I'm also having an each-way bet on ALENQUER, as I think William Haggas' three-year-old has been severely underestimated by the bookmakers.
Alenquer kicked off this season by beating Adayar at Sandown. where he made all the running and held on to deny the runner-up. Haggas' charge then dominated the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot, handling heavy ground extremely well as he defeated horses now rated 109, 110 and 114 with ease.
James Doyle then found himself too far off the pace in the Grand Prix de Paris and simply couldn't make any inroads into Hurricane Lane's lead. Alenquer then dropped back to ten furlongs for the Juddmonte International and, although he was powerless to deny Mishriff, Tom Marquand's mount plugged on gamely to follow the winner home in second.
Stepping back up to a mile-and-a-half will certainly suit Alenquer, who's done very little wrong so far this season. If Marquand can catch a nice early position, then I see no reason why Alenquer can't be in there pitching come the closing stages of this historic race.
Verdict
Adayar has run out a resounding winner of the Epsom Derby and the King George on his last two starts, and Charlie Appleby's star appeals most in the betting at 7/2.
Alenquer is one of just two horses to have beaten Adayar this season, and he's shown in recent starts that he can contend in a race of this stature. At 25/1, he's my best each-way bet.
