Punchestown Festival 2025 Tips - Best bets on day two

On the second day of the 2025 Punchestown Festival, three Grade One races headline the event, including an anticipated Punchestown Gold Cup. For betting enthusiasts, DAY 2 tips include backing DOWNMEXICOWAY in the RED MILLS Irish EBF Auction Hurdle Series Final, taking a chance on FAMILIAR DREAMS at 11/1 in the Novice Hurdle, and considering GRANGE WALK at 9/1 in the Colm Quinn BMW Handicap Chase. The Punchestown Festival rolls into its second day on Wednesday. Three Grade One races feature on another stacked card, including a fantastic renewal of the Punchestown Gold Cup.

Here are my best betting tips on day two of the 2025 Punchestown Festival.

Punchestown Festival 2025 Day 2 Tips - Wednesday 30th April


3:05pm Punchestown - RED MILLS Irish EBF Auction Hurdle Series Final Tips


Gavin Cromwell won this with Backtonormal 12 months ago and plays a strong hand again, with Champagne Jury and Millforce both fancied. I'm hopeful of a much better showing from DOWNMEXICOWAY (6/1), who was outpaced and outclassed as Willie Mullins' battalion dominated the Donoghue Marques Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse.

Henry De Bromhead's six-year-old went into that Grade Two on the back of a winter holiday, having run three times during the early months of the season. Downmexicoway was touched off by Scotcantou on his hurdling debut and bumped into Karniquet next time out, but looked good when scoring in a good-ground maiden at Down Royal on Boxing Day.

Darragh O'Keeffe's mount didn't jump or travel well enough to get involved at Fairyhouse. Stepping up to two-and-a-half miles should certainly suit this winning point-to-pointer and this represents a fairly steep drop in grade.

4:15pm Punchestown - Novice Hurdle Tips


Jasmin De Vaux will be looking to back up an excellent victory in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham. Willie Mullins' novice was, however, extremely disappointing at this meeting 12 months ago, having won the Champion Bumper at Prestbury Park, so another top performance is by no means guaranteed.

Gordon Elliott runs three in opposition, and I'm going to take another chance on FAMILIAR DREAMS (11/1), who I fancied would go well in the three-mile Grade One at Aintree. Elliott's mare won her maiden hurdle here under Jordan Gainford in February, and travelled over to Britain on the back of a Grade Three win at Limerick the following month.

Familiar Dreams didn't jump particularly well at Aintree, but seemed to be positioning herself to challenge on the final bend. Sadly, Elliott's mare began to drift badly across the track and Danny Gilligan couldn't get her back on the straight and narrow, crossing the line six lengths adrift of surprise winner, Julius Des Pictons.

Elliott's six-year-old is a tricky customer, but there's plenty of talent under the bonnet and the return of Jordan Gainford, who rode her to victory at Limerick, to the saddle is another plus. At 11/1, she offers each-way value.

6:05pm Punchestown - Colm Quinn BMW Handicap Chase Tips


Following a confidence-boosting win back over hurdles at Limerick three weeks ago, GRANGE WALK (14/1) could go well off this much-reduced chasing mark.

John Ryan's ten-year-old began last season with a rating of 143 over fences and endured a torrid campaign, mixing it between hurdles and fences. Daniel King's mount looked to have found something when third behind An Peann Dearg at the Dublin Racing Festival, but failed to follow-up in the Shamrock Handicap Hurdle at Gowran Park in March, finishing a distant sixth.

Ryan's ten-year-old travelled superbly at Limerick earlier this month and another spring-heeled leap at the last helped Grange Walk end a 16-race losing streak. King's mount returns to chasing running off a lowly mark of just 124 and this versatile gelding has momentum on his side.
