2025 Punchestown Gold Cup Tips - More Punchestown heartache for Galopin Des Champs?
The 2025 Punchestown Gold Cup promises excitement with Galopin Des Champs as the favorite following his defeat in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Despite his setbacks, the absence of key rivals presents a strong opportunity for victory. Another prominent contender is Banbridge at 4/1 odds, favored for the spring conditions that suit his style. While Spillane's Tower could also pose a challenge, the competition's focus remains on Galopin Des Champs and Banbridge, who are prepared for a spectacular showdown at Punchestown.

2025 Punchestown Gold Cup Entries
Galopin Des Champs was thwarted in his quest for a third-straight Cheltenham Gold Cup by Inothewayurthinkin, who powered home to claim a tremendous victory. Gavin Cromwell's star is done for the season and two-time Punchestown Gold Cup winner, Fastorslow is still out injured, leaving Galopin Des Champs as the 11/10 favourite to win this race for the first time.
Spillane's Tower sits just behind Galopin Des Champs in the betting, but hasn't been seen since a poor effort in the King George at Kempton. Fast ground suited Banbridge at Kempton, and Joseph O'Brien's star will be looking to become the first horse to win both the Punchestown Gold Cup and the Punchestown Champion Chase.
The fourth and final runner is Henry De Bromhead's Monty's Star, who remains in Grade One company despite a fairly length defeat behind Inothewayurthinkin and the market leader at Cheltenham.

2025 Punchestown Gold Cup Tips
With just three rivals to beat, and neither Fastorslow nor Inothewayurthinkin in the line-up, this looks like an excellent opportunity for Galopin Des Champs to win his first Punchestown Gold Cup.
Willie Mullins' star lost little in defeat when second in the Gold Cup. In-fact, considering the two-time defending champion jumped poorly and never looked comfortable, a mere six-length defeat at the hands of a younger, progressive rival should be commended.
The field may be small, but Galopin Des Champs does have some talented rivals to deal with. Not least Spillane's Tower, who won the Grade One novice chase at the Punchestown Festival 12 months ago. Jimmy Mangan removed his star from the Ryanair and the Mildmay on account of the ground, and there has been little to no rain in the build-up to Punchestown. Conditions may not be in his favour.

BANBRIDGE (4/1), on the other hand, will relish the ground conditions at Punchestown. Joseph O'Brien's star won the Champion Chase at the Festival last year and saw out three miles well when tracking down Il Est Francais to win the King George VI Chase at Kempton.
Three miles around Kempton, or Punchestown for that matter, is a completely different test to three-and-a-quarter miles on the New Course at Cheltenham. Banbridge's jumping had to be foot-perfect to have a chance of seeing out the Gold Cup trip and, sadly, JJ Slevin's mount made too many mistakes to even get involved in the race.
O'Brien decided to bypass Aintree in favour of a clash with Galopin Des Champs here at Punchestown. Banbridge likes the track and will be best-suited by the ground conditions. 4/1 is a price worth taking.
