Precise delivered a thrilling performance to win the Irish 1000 Guineas under jockey Wayne Lordan, outshining stablemate True Love and top jockey Ryan Moore. Trainer Aidan O'Brien's confidence in Precise’s progress proved justified, with Lordan suggesting she could handle the step up in distance for the Epsom Oaks. With her relaxed running style and strong finish, Precise is now a leading contender for the Oaks, leaving Moore with a tough choice between her and stablemate Amelia Earhart.

Precise could now head to the Epsom Oaks, having returned to winning ways in the Irish 1000 Guineas.

Wayne Lordan has outshone Ryan Moore in the fillies' Classics so far this season, winning both on the supposed Ballydoyle second strings.

Lordan guided True Love to a superb victory in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket earlier this month, with Ryan Moore well beaten aboard Precise. Moore then opted to partner True Love in the Irish equivalent of that Classic on Sunday, but it was Lordan who triumphed again, storming home aboard Precise to win.

Aidan O'Brien's quotes about Precise have rung true this season. Prior to Newmarket, he said that his top juvenile filly would need the outing after meeting with a setback at the start of the spring. O'Brien then said, in the lead-up to Sunday's feature, that Precise had improved plenty for the run, and he was confident of a much more competitive showing when she returned to Irish soil.

Lordan held his mount up on the outside of the field at the Curragh, before sweeping his rivals aside to record a comfortable success. In the aftermath of Sunday's triumph, the winning rider was delighted with his partner, and claimed that she would stay a longer distance quite comfortably.

"She's a beautiful mover who floats along in her races so she always does give you a really good feel when you're riding her," Lordan said, "Even when you're cantering down to the start on her she just gives you this lovely feel. You're happy the whole time on her."

"When I got down into her on Sunday, she started to go forward and I knew the further I was going, the stronger I was getting. She ran through the line really well."

"We've seen fillies from here before who have won the Irish 1,000 Guineas and stepped up to a mile and a quarter and then made the step up to a mile and a half, so it is an option.

"She's quite a relaxed filly, she likes to take her time a little bit, so she gives herself every chance to get that Oaks trip. A good saying that Aidan [O'Brien] always uses is that you don't know until you try it and that's the case with her. Look, if it didn't work you could always come back in trip, no problem."

"I think a mile and a quarter is definitely there for her, without a doubt, and with a mile and a half, you just have to go and find out."

Tuesday went from the Irish 1000 Guineas to the Epsom Oaks in 2022, winning nicely at Epsom under Ryan Moore. Precise now rivals stablemate Amelia Earhart for favouritism in the betting for the 2026 Epsom Oaks, and Moore faces a tough decision as to who he should ride on the famous Epsom Downs.
