Topping the betting for Thursday's main event at Aintree is Gerri Colombe. Gordon Elliott's raider won the three-mile novices chase at this meeting 12 months ago and returns to Merseyside on the back of an excellent runner-up finish in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Shishkin was forced to miss this year's Cheltenham Festival due to the virus that swept through Nicky Henderson's yard, but the defending champion is expected to run at Aintree. As is King George hero Hewick, who has been handed this Grade One assignment over a tilt at the Grand National.

Bravemansgame features in the betting, but he's more likely to wait for the Punchestown Gold Cup. Corbetts Cross could jump back into Grade One company following a runaway victory in the National Hunt Chase. Protektorat could step back up in distance, having won the Ryanair Chase last month.

Ahoy Senor was well-beaten in the Ryanair Chase, but always seems to produce his best form at Aintree each year. Lucinda Russell's star could be joined in the field by Gold Cup runners Gentlemansgame and Jungle Boogie.

Other possible runners on day one of the Grand National Festival include Joseph O'Brien's Banbridge and Olly Murphy's Thunder Rock.
