2024 Aintree Hurdle Tips - Irish contenders hard to split
This article provides insights into the 2024 Aintree Hurdle, a major highlight of Aintree's Grand National festival. The top Irish horses, Bob Olinger and Impaire Et Passe, are leading the betting odds. The British contenders include Langer Dan, Luccia, and Marie’s Rock. Among these, Impaire Et Passe is the recommended bet, but it is advised to wait until the race day for the final decision.

- This Grade One takes place at Aintree on Thursday 11th April
- Impaire Et Passe is our best bet at 9/4
The last of four Grade Ones that take place on day one of Aintree's Grand National festival is the Aintree Hurdle. Irish horses dominated the Grade One races at Cheltenham last month and it's three raiders who currently head this betting heat.
Here's our free guide to the 2024 Aintree Hurdle, along with our best betting tips.

2024 Aintree Hurdle Runners
Henry De Bromhead ignored calls to supplement Relkeel Hurdle winner, Bob Olinger into the Champion Hurdle, instead focussing on this Grade One assignment at Aintree. Willie Mullins also decided to bypass Cheltenham with last year's top novice hurdler Impaire Et Passe, who has been slightly disappointing on his three starts so far this term.
With Constitution Hill still in recovery, Nicky Henderson will have to rely on other runners in this Grade One. Champion Hurdle third, Luccia and former Mares' Hurdle winner, Marie's Rock could represent Henderson, with Iberico Lord and First Street also featured in the market. Dual-Coral Cup winner, Langer Dan will step into Grade One company.
Nemean Lion heads into the Grand National Festival on the back of a limp performance in the Champion Hurdle. Patrick Neville's Mahon's Glory and Gordon Elliott's 11-year-old, Beacon Edge complete the field.
2024 Aintree Hurdle Tips
It's very hard to split the two Irish horses at the top of the market. Both bring strong form to the table and both skipped Cheltenham to prepare for Aintree.
Bob Olinger looked as good as ever when bolting up in the Relkeel Hurdle and ran a good race behind State Man in the Irish Champion Hurdle. Impaire Et Passe finished a distant third that day, having failed to take to front-running tactics. Willie Mullins' star has endured a tricky season, but a three-length defeat to State Man in the Morgiana and a mere one-length loss to Teahupoo in the Hatton's Grace have to be seen as top-level performances.
The British challenge here isn't particularly inspiring. Accomplished handicapper, Langer Dan sits third in the market ahead of Luccia, who hasn't stepped foot beyond two miles before. Nemean Lion will love the ground, but comes into this on the back of a poor effort at Cheltenham and Beacon Edge will have to up his game significantly.
Marie's Rock bounced back from a blow-out at Cheltenham with a fine effort in the Liverpool Hurdle 12 months ago. Nicky Henderson's mare will have to do the same again, but a reproduction of that run could be enough to snatch third.
However, the health of Henderson's yard is still unknown, I'm not sure heavy ground would suit Marie's Rock and, once Mahons Glory or one of the other entrants is withdrawn on account of the going, there will only be two places to play for. An each-way bet doesn't seem sensible.

Verdict
Of the leading contenders, I'm leaning towards Impaire Et Passe, but I won't be having a bet until the day of the race. If Impaire Et Passe drifts then I probably won't back him at all. If available at the same price of 9/4 or a little shorter, then he'll go into a multiple or two.
