2024 Fillies' Mile Entries
Seven runners have been confirmed in Saturday's contest, including three trained by Aidan O'Brien. Despite Dreamy's unbeaten record and winning form over this trip, Ryan Moore has opted to ride January, who stayed on well to finish second in the May Hill Stakes.
Desert Flower has already proven herself over a mile too, having powered to a one-and-a-half length victory over January in the May Hill. The dam handled cut in the ground and Desert Flower's action suggests that soft turf won't bother her. Given Charlie Appleby's record on the Rowley Mile, she's the one to beat.
Tabiti and Anna Swan also defend unbeaten records and neither is without a chance. Ballet Slippers handles soft ground well at Ascot, so she cannot be discounted either.
2024 Fillies' Mile Tips
The rank outsider of the party is CALIFORNIA DREAMER (66/1), and I feel that Adrian Murray's raider has been completely overlooked in the market.
California Dream ran five times during the first three months of the season. Murray's filly was narrowly beaten on debut by Usdi Atohi, who has followed up in Listed company, before placing a length adrift of Fairy Godmother in the Fillies' Sprint Stakes at Naas.
Following a fifth-place finish behind that same rival at Royal Ascot, California Dreamer was beaten half-a-length by Truly Enchanting in the Airlie Stud. Amo Racing's filly then ran on well to place third behind two future Group One winners, Babouche and Camille Pissarro in the Anglesey Stakes at the Curragh.
After a summer break, David Egan's mount was beaten two lengths behind Heaven's Gate in the Weld Park Stakes. Californa Dreamer was slowly away that day and couldn't find any room to manoeuvre until the final furlong, where she saw out the seven-furlong trip well to finish fourth.
Despite starting the season running over five and six furlongs, California Dream is out of a German Oaks winner and was doing her best work in the final furlong of the Weld Park. Mehmas' progeny often cope well with slower conditions and Egan will be happy with a central draw in stall three.

Verdict
Despite her position in the market, California Dreamer's form this season is better than most of those ahead of her and Adrian Murray's raider is bred to handle both the trip and ground conditions. She's worth a punt at 66/1.
